CREMATED REMAINS:

The normal requirements are:

Certificate of cremation'Certified copy of an Entry' from RegistrarFuneral Director's declaration as to contentsHM Customs declarationConsular regulations (Zinc Lining, Sealing)

Slide68

CREMATED REMAINS:

A plastic "

Polytainer" or "Ashtainer" plastic urn is ideal for transporting cremated remains. This should be contained in the cardboard box, wrapped in brown paper and labelled. Red sealing wax should be used to seal the knot in the string.

Slide69

CREMATED REMAINS:

Some consular authorities require a wooden casket (sometimes with a zinc lining, such as Poland and Italy) with two countersunk holes drilled (about the size of a 10p coin) in the base. When the casket is taken to the Embassy or Consulate the holes are then filled with wax and an official seal impressed.

Some Embassies or Consulates do not wish to see the casket but need to examine the paperwork. They will advise on the documents required and the fee charged for this service.
