Slide2Introduction
In spite ethno-religious conflicts in some part of Plateau State, in recent time, some sub-urban
centres
have experience increase in population and urbanization as a result of infrastructural development particularly in transportation sector. Among these
centres
, Kuru town, the headquarters of Kuru District is one of the sub-urban
centre
that need government attention due to its nature and rapid development in terms of economic, education and infrastructural development
Slide3Statement of the Problem
There are many plans about different aspect and areas in Plateau State but none about Kuru area. Therefore, this plan sought to address the issues and problems of transportation system based on the following:
Mode of transportation
Means of transportation
Traffic
Transportation facilities
Transportation challenges and
Sustainable transportation system in Kuru area.
Slide4Goals and Objectives of the Plan
The goal of spatial subject plan is to assess transportation system for Kuru area for period of 2019 to 2029 that will guide the transportation development of the planning area.
The specific objectives of the plan are as follows:
To assess the physical and socio-economic characteristics of the Kuru area.
To examine the existing transportation system in the planning area.
To make planning proposal for the planning area.
Slide5Scope of the Plan
The scope of spatial plan on transportation covers the Kuru area of kuru District of Jos south local government area of Plateau State.

Slide9Literature Review
Planning is a very broad but details discipline that touches all aspect of life. While communities today face many challenges some of them, such as pollution and traffic, can be addressed by careful and creative planning. It is the planner’s job to address such problems and provide viable solutions for today and future.
According to
Obateru
(2005), physical planning is concerned with the spatial arrangement of urban and rural lands uses for the purpose of creating orderly, economical, functionally efficient and aesthetically pleasing physical environment for living, working, recreation and circulation.
Transportation planning as an area of interest and specialization also instigate the interest of many researchers-planners, geographers, engineers, etc. To
Agbaeze
(2003), transportation planning affords the physical planners the opportunities of applying and using the desired concept and physical geometric configuration network effect appropriate and sustained land use distribution. The focus of this plan is spatial subject plan on transportation.
Slide10Theoretical Framework and Concept
There are also some concept that can be best explained transportation of settlement such as the neighborhood unit concept, the
Radburn
concept, the environmental area concept, the superblock concept, the cluster concept, the new town concept and central place concept. According to
Agbaeze
(2003), the central place concept is based on the concept that; the fundamental order of things is the centralization of its mass about a
nucleaus
(service
centres
). Therefore this plan adopted the central place concept.
Slide11Summary of Findings

Slide14PRINCIPLES, PROPOSALS AND IMPLEMENTATIONThe Provision and Strategy
The following principles are adopted.
Plan for a community street network
Plan and design transportation facilities that fit in with the community topography
Enhances functionality of all categories of modes and means of transportation.
Decentralize development along all roads in the planning area.
Discourage development along roads etc.
Slide15Plan Proposals
The proposed transportation network would be that,
development of exiting road and rail network
The railway rehabilitation and upgraded
All road hierarchy improvement and construction
Proposed transportation development in Kuru town would be implemented based on the phasing, strategy and principles of the spatial subject plan
