Slide2

Until the late 1960s and early 1970s, children with hemophilia received treatment in hospitals or emergency rooms. However, it soon became clear to doctors, nurses and people with Hemophilia that treating more quickly, at first sign of bleeding, gave better results.

One way to provide this prompt treatment is with home infusion. Home infusion is the administration of clotting factor by a parent, caregiver, sibling, or by the patient with hemophilia.

Introduction for Home Therapy

Slide3

Potential for less blood loss. Early and proper treatment may have potential for decreased blood loss.

Helps manage time. There is no need to go to clinic/hospital for infusions.

Makes infusions possible while traveling. Flexibility and convenience.

Why should you infuse at home ?

Slide4

The HTC or clinic will decide if home therapy is appropriate for the patient and the family.

This requires a good deal of knowledge about identifying and assessing bleeds.

Requires the skills to actually perform the infusion. The HTC will train the patient and family on how to infuse.

Is Home therapy right for you ?
