DESIGN
AND
IMPLEMENTATION
OF A THERAPEUTIC VIDEO GAME FOR PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH AN
AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDER
Autor: Luna Sampedro Jiménez
Tutor: Martina EckertDecember 2018
PURPOSE
:Create the first level of the videogame ”Amalia’s Planet” which should help children diagnosed with CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder) [1] to improve certain auditory skills like correctly recognizing sounds and messages in noisy environments.

Model created in Blender [3]
Design restrictions implemented:Adjustable amount of noise produced by the group of penguins Use of headphones, essential to filter the external noiseStorage of results data for analysis
RESULTS AND FUTURE WORK:
The present work will be tested in a real scenario (primary school) and it’s the first module of a larger project of a more versatile game which will have more scenarios with more different animals that have to be implemented.

FIRST LEVEL:
Find the group of penguins on the island just by
listening their noise and the calls of one of them as quickly as possible. The penguins and the player appear in random positions every time the game starts (player green dots, penguins pink dots).
SECOND LEVEL:
The penguin hides in the group and makes different movements with sounds, the player has to repeat them in the correct order. This forces listening and auditive memory. The difficulty increases step by step, adding different types of sounds and increasing the number of sounds to remember.
