The irony, is that most of the younger Arrowmen show up to help box up the leftovers, aren't sure what books, magazines, cd's and vinyl’s are, technolog ical times being what they are. But one of the perks of helping out, is snagging a portion of what hasn't been sold and taking it home for your very own. We had a good showing from Crow Chapter, so it was hard work in a short amount of time that lent itse lf to plenty of opportunities for cheerful service, which is what the Order of the Arrow is all about. - Mr Muleady A Flock of Books Pics. Just some Sudoku Woja Prepares for TOR In preparation for the Wiatava TOR on February 24, Woja had our own Trade - o - ree at our Chapter meeting two days earlier. We had 4 "lots" of 10 patches each followed by a live auction. This event wasn't about raising money for the Chapter , it was about learning how to be effective at the Lodge TOR. Only the youth participated and b ids were made using Sam - bucks. You ask what is a Sam - buck? S

am Hasson is our Chapter Chief and below is a Sam - buck. Everybody got 30 Sam - bucks. Unlike the lodge TOR you had to pay for your patches immediately after each lot - with Sam bucks - no chec ks or cash accepted. One of the lessons learned was that if you want a patch really badly don't bid all your Sam bucks - bid in small increments. And even if you lose a bidding war - it is possible that the SAME patch will be in a later lot. Curren foun d this out the hard way when he bid all of his Sam bucks on a Wiatava Lodge flap only to see the same patch show up again. Woja Prepares for TOR Cont. Nick showed restraint as he bid often , but didn't bid too high. He was what we call a bottom feeder - he ended up with more patches than anyone else. That is him bidding while everyone else was smiling for the picture. However, by the time the live action was to start - most of the Arrowmen had very little money. The Woja bank ( Mr. Taylor ) was conflicted - should we give the boys more money or teach them a lesson in financial management ? Well, he caved - and handed out another 20 Sam bucks to everyone. That same night was no other t han Baden Powell's birthday. He would have been 161. So before the live auction we enjoyed a cake in his honor while the Chief conducted the business of the meeting. In the live auction , were ceremony ordeal patches, an ordeal patch from 1998, a Wiatava key chain, a towel, and many other highly sought after items. We had a good time and our Arrowmen were prepared for the lodge TOR. Can't wait for our next Chapter meeting! - Greg Taylor Woja Prepares for TOR Cont. The Cog Wiatava Lodge #13 Issue # 15 ,

Spring Cog Page 3 Collin Freeman Wiatava Lodge Secretary Stamping Down Service Crows first service project of the year, the ORCO Stamp Expo, was a huge success. Already looking strong for another Chapter of the Year, our chapter had an excellent turn out with a total of 345 hours! Those hours largely consisted of handling peoples' wrists - probably making them slightly uncomfortable - attaching a wristband, and s at rooms full of stamps from all over the world; some Chinese monkey stamps worth $2,000, and some duck stamps that are back every year worth a couple hundred. Although this is one of Crow's more...sedentary...service projects, it's pretty eye opening when you realize how much money some people will pay for a square inch of paper, and how many people like recalling that they too, were boy scouts. An interesting experience to kick off our new year of service, thank you Crow for the participation and I'm looking forward to taking a bigger group next year to help carry boxes of the heaviest tiny paper squares they have ever lifted. - Andy Mason, VC of Service Stamping Down Service Pics. The Order of the Arrow is the Boy Scout’s national honor society. While it is built on cheerful service and Brotherhood, one of the main aspects that keeps arrowmen coming back is Indian Affairs. Ceremonies, dancing, crafting, drumming, and much more are all very fun things to do. Think of how much harder your first Ordeal would have been if you were not inspired by the figures that spoke to you on that first night. The colorful costumes of the dancers, the steady beat of the drum as you are called out at Camp - o - ree. This is what makes the OA so special. - Tommy Herro Importance of I ndian Affai

Send your thoughts to Secretary@wiatava.org Good Ol’ Chapter Fun Modoc Chapter hosted their first Co - Chapter Activity commemorating the first 5th Thursday of the 2018 year. On March 29th, Modoc and Crow Chapters descended on AMF Carter Bow l in Fullerton for an evening of bowling, food and fellowship. Youth Arrowmen from both Chapters racked up the points as Ian Heffernan from Modoc and Daniel Muleady from Crow scored several strikes throughout the evening. The Brotherhood enjoyed buffet st yle pizza, chicken tenders and a variety of soft drinks. Adult Arrowmen and Advisors enjoyed the food and the fellowship as well. Modoc plans to pursue future opportunities this year for Co - Chapter events with other Wiatava Lodge Chapters. Modoc extends i ts thanks to Michael Koh, Crow Chapter Chief, and the Crow Brotherhood for the fun evening and looks forward to more events with Crow. - John Cornelius On April 28 , Modoc participated in a service project called Love Placentia. We created no - sew blankets to give to the homeless in need. We arrived at about 8:15 am and were tasked with cutting the material to a certain length to make the blankets. Then we cut fringes and knitted them. It was fun and it gave people an opportunity to talk, work, and give back to the community at the same time. Soon after we had to leave, but I can assure you that the process of making the blankets was a lot more fun and rewarding. If the event happens again I am definitely going. For The Love of Placentia!
