Causes of conjunctivitisViral conjunctivitis is the most common type Adenoviruses are the most common cause of viral conjunctivitis , herpes simplex viruses.Bacterial conjunctivitis as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia, , Hemophilic influenza , Neisseria gonorrhea and , Chlamydia trachomatis (that causes persistent chronic conjunctivitis (trachoma)) Bacterial and viral conjunctivitis are highly contagious.Allergic conjunctivitis usually bilateralIrrigative conjunctivitis caused by chemicalsconjuctivities lina saad

Treatment Viral conjunctivitis usually resolves on its own and does not require any specific treatmentAllergic conjunctivitis artificial tears ,antihistamines , mast cell stabilizers may be prescribed. Persistent allergic conjunctivitis may also require topical steroid drops. cold compressBacterial conjunctivitis topical AB ( drops and ointment) as quinolones hot fomentation systemic AB prescribed in severe persistent cases, difficult to apply topical as in severe lid edema and young age, active trachoma.conjuctivities lina saad
13. preventionNever share personal items such as hand towels or tissues.Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.Avoid rubbing or touching your eyes.Wash your hands frequently, Keep a hand sanitizer nearby and use it frequently.For contact lenses wearers, use contact lens solutions properly or consider switching to daily disposable contact lenses.When swimming, wear swim goggles to protect yourself from bacteria and other microorganisms in the water that can cause conjunctivitis.conjuctivities lina saad
