6. SwissFEL BPM OverviewPage 6BPM pickup (mechanics) types:Low-Q BPMs (3.3 GHz):For linac & transfer linesCan measure two bunches (short ringing signal)Two types (16mm & 38mm aperture)High-Q BPMs (4.9 GHz):Can only measure single bunches (long ringing signal)Mainly used for undulators (higher resolution that low-Q)Two types (Aramis: 8mm, Athos branch: 5mm aperture)BPM electronics types:"Old" type ("MBU" = Modular BPM unit), based on E-XFELPresently installed in Aramis & Athos, for all BPM types"New" type (DBPM3), based on new SLS2 BPM platformOnly for high-Q (4.9 GHz high-resolution) BPMs~3x cheaper than "Old" MBU electronicsExpect comparable performance (ADCs 3x faster)

7. Athos BPM Status & PlansPage 7So far, only MBU BPMs are used in SwissFEL, including AthosNot all BPMs needed yet -> only BPMs required for commissioning were equipped with electronics, using Aramis sparesIn April 2020, the first DBPM3 electronics should become operational in Athos (pre-series, successfully tested in lab)In summer 2020, all Athos undulator BPMs should be equipped with new DBPM3 series version electronicsLater, also Aramis undulators will use DBPM3 (probably Q1/2021), replacing old high-Q MBU electronics to be used as (low-Q) long-term spares ( >80% of low-Q/high-Q electronics are identical)Old and new electronics have same EPICS channels used by operations (position, charge, ...) -> should be transparent for operation.Only expert EPICS channels different, but we will try to make this transparent, too (save/restore, loading defaults, ...)

8. Athos BPM Status & Plans (Cont'd)Page 8All priority 1 Athos BPMs were ready 11/2019 for 1st lasingFirst DBPM3 BPM electronics April 2020Remaining DBPM3 electronics to be installed in summer 2020
