Background

We aim to provide

language-enthusiasts with more flexible opportunities to practice conversational language with others. With Fluantly, users record audio messages responding to prompts they’re interested in and exchange them with others. We hope that, through these audio exchanges with fellow users of different fluency levels, people can improve their conversational language skills while making new friends.

Slide4

Mission Statement

Empower people to use language as a means to meet new people.

Each participant was asked to complete 3 tasks

Videotaped prototype interactions

Analyzed timing and positive/negative events

Slide19

Experiment Result - Timing

Slide20

Experiment Result - Negative Events

The concept of drift bottle caused confusion initially

The bottom half of the main screen drew too much attention from users

Slide21

Experiment Result - Negative Events

The difference between the “send” and “post” buttons for progress sharing was not clear

Slide22

Experiment Result - Positive Events

The progress chart was easy to follow

Users were able to understand the drift bottle concept given explanation

Slide23

Suggested UI Changes

Add instructions/explanation

for the drift bottle conceptThe purpose of calendar should be made more obviousBring community/feed to the main screenChange the “Send a Drift Bottle” on the main screen

Slide24

Summary

Participants were able to complete all three tasks with some guidance

The drift bottle concept needs explanationCertain UI changes are necessary
