1. Curriculum Letter- Autumn 2 2021A note from Y5 staffA very warm welcome back to all parents to the remainder of our autumn term. The children have settled back into school very quickly. Thank you for your support at home with home learning and by reading with your child. Please keep this up because it really does have a huge impact. Spellings will now be on Monday for the remainder of this term and homework will be given out on Wednesday. Please make sure children return their folders so their homework can be given to them. The children will also be learning about prime numbers and how to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle English This half term, our English lessons will be focussing on Holes by Louis Sachar.Children will produce pieces of writing focussing on setting descriptions, diary entries and suspense stories.As well as reading Holes, children will explore a range of other text types including poetry, songs and non-fiction texts. Children will complete daily reading sessions focussing on the different reading VIPERS (vocabulary, inference, prediction, explain, retrieve and summarise) to embed their reading skills. Our topicOur topic for this term is focussing on the question “How does it work?” We will be looking at toys from the past and present to investigate what makes them move and how they work.P.E.This half term children will have PE lessons on Wednesday. Children need to come to school in their outdoor PE kit.  REIn RE we will be looking at how we care for the world we live in and about sharing and being generous.
