Welfare and Inclusion Rep Coventry University Students’ Union (CUSU) Salary: £300 Stipend per semester (pro-rata) TERM OF OFFICE: | PART TIME ROLE TRAINING: October 2020 The Welfare and Inclusion Rep will be required to attend training in preparation for starting the role. Eligibility: Must be a student for at least two semesters and be an enrolled throughout that time in order to take on the role. Overview Welfare and Inclusion Reps are responsible for representing the students of their school in relation to the following areas: mental health and wellbeing, welfare support and equity and diversity. The Welfare and Inclusion Rep is a key member of CUSU’s student led team and works alongside their fellow Welfare and Inclusion Reps and Faculty Officer. They are key to supporting and representing student's welfare needs, reducing barriers to student success and ensuring all students can engage fully in all elements of student life. Role Purpose To represent students in their school in relation to Welfare and Inclusion ensuring CUSU and the university are operating inclusively and supporting the needs of all students. They will help plan, develop and communicate Welfare and Inclusion related campaigns, activities and opportunities to students in their school. Welfare and Inclusion Reps will also have the opportunity to be lead representatives for our liberation communities including: Black, Asian & Minority ethnic students, Women, LGBTQ+, Disabled students, International students and Students of Faith and have the opportunity to represent our liberation groups na

tionally at NUS conferences. Role Overview: • Represent the students of the relevant school on all Welfare and Inclusion matters relating to the student experience. Receive feedback and report any matters to the relevant student, University and external committees. • Communicate with students to collect their views on issues and ideas that come up throughout the academic year. • Ensure appropriate liaison with the Faculty Officer and Sabbatical team of CUSU, working collaboratively on projects on behalf of the students across their school. • Lead on the promotion of CUSU Welfare and Inclusion work across their school. • Engage students within their school in CUSU campaigns and activities and feed in ideas and suggestions that will benefit the development of CUSU within the Faculty. • Maintain the democratic processes within the Rep structure, promote the officer positions and encourage students to be involved with CUSU. • Attend Welfare and Inclusion Forum Meetings • Represent their school on Feedback Weeks and suggest topics relating to student’s Welfare and Inclusion based experience. • Carry out other duties deemed appropriate by the students of their school. Equity & Diversity The Welfare and Inclusion Rep will attend Equity and Diversity training and support with raising awareness and encouraging engagement of EDI topics, campaigns and events. They will promote activities within their School and help to develop initiatives that increase inclusivity on campus. They will feed into the wider campaigns that cut across all areas of CUSU, ensuring they are inclusive and accessible, and

help with the planning and delivery of Equity & Diversity focused activity. They will also represent the interests of our E&D groups within the School, Faculty and University. Mental Health & Wellbeing The Welfare and Inclusion Rep will support the Vice President for Welfare and Inclusion and Sport Wellbeing Officer in promoting and developing Mental Health and Wellbeing campaigns and support services within their School and across the University. They will help to develop and deliver the Mental Health and Wellbeing work of CUSU and ensure we are actively supporting the wellbeing needs of students within their School. Welfare Advice The Welfare and Inclusion Rep will act as the voice of SUAC within their School and inform university staff and students of the work and services of SUAC. They will give feedback at the Welfare and Inclusion Forum relating to the advice needs of students from their School to ensure our welfare advice services effectively support students. Meetings Welfare and Inclusion Reps will attend a monthly Welfare and Inclusion Forum where they will work alongside other Welfare and Inclusion Reps on related projects occurring on a School, faculty, University or community level. Welfare and Inclusion Reps will represent their schools using student feedback to create and develop further welfare and inclusion initiatives and support mechanisms. Welfare and Inclusion Reps will also attend a student voice working group once a month in their faculty to represent the student voice in relation to welfare and inclusion. Welfare and Inclusion Rep liberation leads will also sit on the CUSU Equality and Diversity Committee. K

Welfare and Inclusion Reps will be accountable to the students of their respective school and should actively promote transparency in all work. You will be responsible for keeping students up to date with your work, ensuring you feedback outcomes of key decisions within the Union and School that relate to student questions. Your hours spent on your role will be monitored and reviewed by the Students’ Union to keep you on track, provide support and help with your personal and professional development. Each Welfare and Inclusion Rep is required to serve a minimum of two terms in their role, however, if they wish may serve for three.
