Please turn over Gago Center for Fertility/Gago IVF Hysteroscopy Name: ______________________________ Appointment Date/Time: ___________________ You have been scheduled for a hysteroscopy, which is a visual examination of the endometrial cavity, using a scope with a camera on it, while injecting sterile saline into the cavity. This procedure is done at our facility in the Genoa Medical Center. This procedure is used to determine if there are any abnormalities of the uterus. Abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, and congenital anomalies may be detected. A speculum is placed in the vagina, just as for a routine gynecologic exam. Your cervix is washed off with an iodine preparation prior to inserting a small scope with a camera on it through the cervical opening. Once the scope is in place, a visual examination of the endometrial cavity is done, while a saline fluid is injected. Both the patient and her partner can watch on the monitor as the exam is performed. You may experience cramping which will rapidly resolve as the liquid flows back from the uterus. There are no limitations on diet or activity prior to the procedure; however, following the procedure, nothing in the vagina for 24 hours. Should you experience severe abdominal pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, foul smelling discharge, or fevers following the procedure, please call our office (810) 227-3232. If it is after hours or a weekend please call the answering service.
