The building under construction is a SAT centre in Honduras. SAT, or the ‘System of Tutorial Learning’ (Sistema de Aprendizaje Tutorial), is a secondary education programme designed for rural life and poverty reduction. The aim of SAT is to equip and motivate young people to help their communities. It provides the skills, knowledge and attitudes (or values) to form community leaders or agents of change. The SAT secondary education curriculum involves 6 years of interdisciplinary study including sciences, maths, agricultural science and farming methods, social studies, geography and service to the community. SAT is particularly oriented to helping students develop a capacity for conceptual thinking and problem solving.
