Desire

“It

is a state of mind familiar to everyone who has ever wanted to drink water or desired to know what has happened to an old friend, but its familiarity does not make it easy to give a theory of

desire” (“Desire”)

“…state

of mind that is commonly associated with a number of different effects: a person with a desire tends to act in certain ways, feel in certain ways, and think in certain

ways” (“Desire”).

“…the

tendencies a person has to feel certain ways or think in certain ways when she has a desire are interesting but inessential

tendencies” (“Desire”).Slide3

Spirituality

“That

relationship between ourselves and something greater compels us to seek answers about the

infinite” (“Spirituality”)

“…man’s

connection to something beyond the temporal, sends him wandering down paths that offer unsatisfactory

results” (“Spirituality”).

“Through

certain actions, an individual may appear outwardly religious, and yet lack any underlying principles of

spirituality” (“Spirituality”)Slide4

Restlessness

“…unless

one wants to live a stunningly boring life, one ought to be on good terms with one’s darker side and one’s darker

energies” (Jamison)

“I believe

that curiosity, wonder and passion are defining qualities of imaginative minds and great teachers

.” (Jamison)

“It

is important to value intellect and discipline, of course, but it is also important to recognize the power of irrationality, enthusiasm, and vast

energy” (Jamison)Slide5

Analysis

After writing down all of the quotes and facts that I found from different web sites, I see how easily desire, spirituality, and restlessness can all connect quite easily. In fact, the main theme between the three would be motivation and how all three of these categories inspire it. Whether it’s discovering ourselves and the world around us through spirituality, constantly working and trying to find new things through restlessness, or even trying to obtain what we desire most, we are always being motivated to try to figure out what we want out of life and those around us. Along with this, these three mainly deal with ourselves as individuals. As we are going through life, we need these three main categories in order to discover ourselves and what we were meant to do with our lives. For instance, we all desire different things, but we can all use our restlessness to help us achieve these desires by looking to our spirituality to decide which direction we should take in order to fulfill our duties. Not only that, but also the fact that all three of these subjects make it known that it is completely up to each individual on how we accomplish these things. However, we also allow the outside world (friends, media, and gossip) to help influence our choices, be that for better or worse. Due to this, we all end up leading different paths but still need these three consistent categories in order to “do it right”. At the end of the day we are all our own person and we all have our own paths to follow. However, in the end, we all use the same tools to accomplish different goals: desire, spirituality, and restlessness.Slide6
