Summary
The war of Mexican independence started on September 16, 1810. Spain had tyrannically ruled over Mexico for 300 years and Father Miguel Hidalgo was tired of it so he rang the bell of his church and issued his “Cry of Delores” that declared a open revolt against Spanish rule. In minutes Hidalgo had hundreds of Indians and Mestizos armed and ready go to war. After many battles Mexico won their independence and signed a Treaty of Cordoba which established their independence.Slide7
HOW IT IS CELEBRATED
Mexican Independence day is one of the most important national holidays. In every square the Mexican villages are decorated with Mexican national colors. They use Mexican flags, balloons, and light decorations. Some woman dress up in macho style (Mexican pants, ponchos, and sombreros.) Each year on September 15 the Mexican president goes out onto the balcony of the National palace in Mexico city and rings the liberty bell at exactly 11pm as Father Hidalgo rang it at that time.
