Using the checklist, simply place a tick or cross in the square provided. For each quote you receive. Remember, if you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait til you see what hiring an amateur costs.

Before and After Photos

—do they provide before and after photos for your records?

Safe Work Method Statement

—do they use SWMS?

Licensing

—are all the tradesmen (including sub-contractors) who will be working on your site, licensed? Not just the owner of the company.

Structural Items Certified

—does the quotation allow for the independent certification of all structural renovations/ repairs?

Fixed price –

does the quotation have a fixed price? Key words to avoid are: estimates, tba, provisional cost or PC items.

Allowances

does

the quote list allowances for specific items, such as tiles?

Insurance– does the quote include the cost of home warranty insurance or the equivalent?

Clean Site Policy–do they have a clean site policy? Who is responsible for removing all rubbish?

Contract

—do they state that they use a Master Builders, or similar industry body contract?

Detailed quotation

—have they listed what is included/excluded in the quotation price?

Price

–does their price compare with the other builders?
