3. Muscular System NotesThe body is composed of over 600 musclesMuscular System-group of structures that give your body parts the power to move
4. 3 Kinds of Muscle:A.Skeletal-attached to bones that enable you to move (voluntary)
5. B.Smooth- the muscles found in the organs, blood vessels, and glands (involuntary) C.Cardiac- found only in the walls of the heart (involuntary)
6. How muscles WorkTwo basic actions account for all muscle movement. Extension- the lengthening of muscle fibers Contraction- is the shortening of muscle fibers.
7. Fast and slow twitch muscle fibersFast Twitch- Because fast twitch fibers use anaerobic metabolism to create fuel, they are much better at generating short bursts of strength or speed than slow muscles. However, they fatigue more quickly.Slow Twitch- The slow muscles are more efficient at using oxygen to generate more fuel (known as ATP) for continuous, extended muscle contractions over a long time
8. Your Muscular SystemWhat is a muscle strain? This is a muscular problem that can have lasting effects. It is caused by small tear to a muscle or tendon. What are two healthy behaviors that can prevent muscular system problems? Maintaining muscle tension by using the muscles, and by wearing protective gear while engaging in sports.
