WPM = ( # Words/ Time in Seconds) x 60
Example: When I read a paragraph from lesson 05, which has 149 words, I timed myself reading for 1:11 minutes.
1:11 on the stop watch is 71 seconds.
(149 words/ 71 seconds) x 60 seconds/minutes = 126 WPM
Time allowed for speech x WPM = Approximate number of words for your speech.
YOUR TURN: If it takes you 1:40 to read something with 200 words, what is your WPM? About how many words would you need for a five minutes speech?Slide12
