Presentation Transcript

1. Circulatory System

2. FunctionsTransports food/ nutrients, oxygen, and chemicals to the cells.Removes Carbon Dioxide and waste from the cells.Transports cells to attack pathogens.

3. HeartThe muscle that transports the needed materials throughout the body.Pumps about 5 liters every minute.Nerve tissue on your heart controls heart rhythm

4. Blood FlowHeartThe tissue that separates the heart the two sides is the Septum.Right upper- Right Atrium low in Oxygen comes from the bodyFlows down to the right Ventricle through a valve (does not allow back flow).Blood moves to lungs to exchange Carbon Dioxide for Oxygen (Diffusion) at the Alveoli.Left Atrium receives Oxygen rich blood from lungsPasses through valve to Left Ventricle and out to body

5. ArteriesArteries (Bright Red)Blood vessels that carry blood awayLargest Artery is the AortaBranch into small, flexible arteries then to capillaries.

6. VeinsVeins- have valves to prevent back flow.Dark Red and low in oxygenBlood is pushed back to the heart

7. CapillariesCapillariesVery thin-walled to allow diffusionRed blood cells pass single fileFunction to give up oxygen and take waste away

8. BloodBloodContains four componentRed blood cells, White blood cells, platelets, and plasma

9. PlasmaPlasmaYellowish fluid90% water , 10% protein, fats, salts, and gasesRegulates amount of water entering and leaving cellAntibodies fight off bacteria, viruses, and other substancesContains clotting factors

10. Red BloodRed Blood CellsProduced in Bone marrow and live about 120 days2 million die per secondContains Iron protein (Hemoglobin)attaches to oxygen easily

11. White Blood CellsWhite Blood cellsLarger than red blood cells and last months or yearsDevelop in Bone marrowFunction is to protect the body from pathogen by surrounding it and digesting it.Produces antibodies

12. PlateletsPlateletsCollects around cuts Produces fibrin that burst apart to form clotting agentsCatches blood cells and plasma to create clot/scabThey are fragments of cells that are produced in the bone marrowLive 10 days
