Location: St. Malachi Center Addiction Awareness Workshop Samaritan Ministry Program The purpose of this training is to provide individuals with the tools to help sub-stance abusers and their families who are experiencing problems in their lives due to alcohol and/or other drug use-related issues. The program consists of educational ses-sions, which will increase participants’ awareness of the possible consequences associated with alcohol and other drug use, deepen understanding of the brain disease of alcohol and other drug addic-tion, and strengthen the church’s ability to minister to individuals who are experienc-ing problems related to the use of alcohol and other drugs. Substance abuse touches every commu-nity. Statistics suggest that 66% of the population uses alcohol and/or other drugs. Of those, 20% experience major life consequences resulting from abuse (e.g. drunk driving, health problems — just two of MANY problems) and 10% de-velop the disease of alcoholism/addiction. Every alcoholic/addict affects 4 to 5 other lives. What is the Samaritan Ministry? Program Committee Sr. Linda Francl, CSJ Jackie Krejcik, MA Drew McAuliffe Rev. Anthony J. Schuerger, M.Div.
