Pig on the Loose By Geri Murray

Mom had big news for Tim and Jan. “Dad and I will go on a cruise,” said Mom. “Miss June will stay with you.”“Cool!” said Tim.

Miss June played tricks on Tim and Jan. The kids tried to think of a trick to play on Miss June. “Let’s tell her we have a new dog, and then we can bring Slim in on a leash,” said Tim. “Tim and Jan, do not be rude,” said Mom. “Get out new sheets and make a bed for Miss June.”

Miss June came at noon. She had quite a few bags and strange food. After the hugs, the kids told her the news. “Miss June, we have a cool new pet. It is a pink pup named Slim.”

“You two are trying to fool me,” said Miss June. “A pink pup? Let’s go see this cool new pet.” The kids ran to the pen with Miss June. “Well, where is the pup?” she asked.  But Slim was not in sight! “Pig on the loose!” Tim cried.

“I hope he stays away from Ms. Pew,” Jan cried. Ms. Pew was mad at Slim. Slim ate the peas in her patch and stomped on her greens. Ms. Pew had said to Tim, “If I catch that pig in my plants, it’s time for a ham stew!”

Tim and Jan ran to Ms. Pew’s pea patch, but Slim was not loose in the peas. “What will we do?” Jan cried.

Oh no! Slim was in the pool! Tim and Jan dived in to save Slim. They pulled the wet pig out of the pool.

Dad helped Tim and Jan get Slim out of the pool. Then Dad fixed the screw in Slim’s pen. Tim and Jan hugged Slim. “Dad, I knew about the loose screw, but I did not fix Slim’s gate, and Slim got loose. I feel bad for Slim,” Tim said.

Dad knew Tim felt bad. “Slim needs you to care for him. Can you do this while we are on the cruise?”

“I won’t let Slim out of my sight,” said Tim. “Do you plan to sleep with Slim, too?” asked Miss June. “I will if I have to,” Tim sighed.
