Washington, DC 20520 Mail nea - grants@state.gov Site Web http://mepi.state.gov/mepi/index.html About the organisation The Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), located within the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, is a unique program designed to engage directly with and invest in the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) by creating partnerships with citizens to foster the development of pluralistic , participatory, and prosperous societies throughout the MENA region. In support of these goals, MEPI partners with local, regional, and international non - governmental organizations, the private sector, academic institutions, and governments. Type of assistance MEPI offers a variety of funding mechanisms to support the efforts of reform - minded individuals and organizations working throughout the region. Funding Opportunities In 2009, MEPI distributed more than $50 million in grants in the MENA region. Grant applications are reviewed at MEPI's Washington, D.C. headquarters and in the two regional offices. MEPI seeks innovative ideas and approaches to developing strong programs within and across the Middle East and North Africa. In addition, MEPI sets b enchmarks to measure success and monitor progress to ensure that goals are being met. Local grant projects usually range from $25,000 to $150,000 each, are intended to support quick impact activities, and are generally completed in one year.
