.
Activities:
Strengthen Regional Office to manage the BACs and its HRD

Slide7- KAIZEN (inclusive of 5S)
-Kaizen in Japanese is meant to be Change (Kai) for Betterment (Zen)
KAIZEN is the philosophy / concept / methodology of continuous improvement of quality and productivity with minimum investment.
Japanese companies uses this KAIZEN to stay competitive (2-3) Acquaintance with KAIZEN
BDS experts in Japan as SME Consultants work for companies
7
Slide80. What is 5S?
5S is named with words of initial “S” in Japanese, (1) SEIRI (Sorting, Organization, Regulation)
(2) SEITON (Set-in Order, Neatness, Arrangement)
(3) SEISO (Shining
・
Sweeping, Cleaning)
(4) SEIKETSU (Standardization, Maintenance)
(5) SHITSUKE (Sustaining, Discipline, Training).
2. These activities will improve working environment of shop floor and office floor, consisting of above five items.

Karakuri
Kaizen is an improvement method that applies the idea of the
Karakuri
doll.
Cheap and small equipment is needed using neither the motor nor electricity as much as possible, and use gravity and the lever to its maximum.
Karakuri
doll
(Tea carrying doll)
KARAKURI KAIZEN
Concrete example of Kaizen (2)
Historically, this doll was created about 300 years ago.
Slide17Example of KARAKURI KAIZEN(Tepa’s
Gari company)
A new mechanism was developed for the opening and closing the cover of the feeder (grating machine) during the grating of cassava.
Prior to the introduction of the Kaizen, the total man waiting time for opening and closing the cover of the grating machine when grating a
truck load of cassava was fifty (50) minutes
.
After the implementation of the kaizen, a new mechanism was developed for the opening and closing the cover of the grating machine and
man waiting time is now zero.
17
Slide18To increase packing and sealing process by decreasing work in process
.
Before Kaizen
Lot production system
was applied. (1 lot size is full of work bench.)
The former process.
The next process.
Measure gari exactly.
Put gari into plastic bag.
Seal each bag by using the sealing machine.
Put 15 gari bags into one large bag.
Concrete example of
Kaizen
18
Slide19There were several problems.
1 lot size (= maximum work in process) was 183 bags.
So operator had to walk and stretch hands to place and pick up bags.
Maximum work in process was 183 bags.
Operator had to walk and stretch hands to place and pick up bags.
19
Slide20When operator picks
up the
gari
into the plastic
bag and
then put into the
large bag,
her position
was too low.
So workability was not good.
Between th
e
two operators,
the line
balancing was not good. So one operator
lost time waiting.
After sealing, there
is too much
work in process
20
Slide21After Kaizen
Features of new work method are as follows.
(1)
Continuous manufacturing method
is applied.
(2) Two operators implement every process.
(3) Work in process has decreased.
Maximum work in process is 3.
Put gari into plastic bag
& measure gari.
Seal gari using machine
& put into large bag.
21
Slide22Merits of new work method are as follows.
(a) Line balancing of former process and latter process is extremely good.
(b) Thanks to minimum work in process, operators can easily locate and pick up work in process.
(c ) New bag stand is introduced. So operator can easily prepare bag.
22
Slide2323
Slide24Directly effects are・・・
(1) Reduce loss time(2) Reduce machine failure(3) Reduce time for material delivery time
(4) Decrease searching time for jig and tools
(5) Increase productivity
Indirectly effects are
・・・
(1) Increase daily management, company quality
(2) Improved awareness on significance of employee participation
(3) Ensuring safety
6. Effects from 5S
Slide254) Benefits to MSMEs
Enhanced Business Development Services are offered with the MSE Consultation. MSE Consultation is to do a) Corporate Diagnosis, Solution provision, on site instructions (KAIZEN) and Follow up
KAIZEN activities (and 5S) will increase the Productivity and Quality Improvement by on site supports and instructions to the implementation.
This will enable the MSES to be more competitive so that the MSES will increase turnovers and/ or reduce cost.
