1 Job Description: Director of Digital & Communications Main Purpose of the Job & Dimensions To provide strategic vision and leadership that drives organisational change in the delivery of products, services and communications at NUSU. To ensure the effective development, delivery and deployment of cutting edge digital solutions and be responsible for management of NUSU’s IT systems and infrastructure. This will be a strategic role and part of the Senior Management Team of NUSU, but will require a ‘hands on’ approach at times to ensure effective implementation of projects and strategies. Management of up to 10 staff and a budget up to £320,000. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1 To lead on the strategic development and management of NUSU’s marketing and communication initiatives. Establish and drive an internal and external communications strategy that positively affects students, employees’ and customers’ understanding, engagement and commitment. 2 To work effectively with others across NUSU, providing effective support and building strong working relationships with other department managers. To work with external suppliers to deliver the digital infrastructure and services needed to achieve strategic priorities. Determine marketing and communication projects to be completed internally and externally. 3 To contribute to the overall strategic planning, development and management of NUSU as a member of the Senior Management Team, by scoping the digitisation of communications and services, using the most appropriate technologies to enhance the student experience, improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase income opportunities. 4 Actively lead and manage the organisation’s Marketing, Communications and IT Team, and Information and Communication Technology provision. rable improvement of service delivery throughout NUSU through the effective use of automation and digitisation where appropriate. 5 To utilise CRM technologies to streamline processes, systems and services to improve efficiency and create a positive customer/student experience. 6 To adopt a ‘Digital by Design’ approach when reviewing services, developing and implementing the services around the needs of the customer / student /service user. 7 To utilise data, technology and segmentation methodologies to enhance our communications offer through the use of more targeted and personalised messages. 8 To oversee NUSU’s communications activity providing support and advice to all departments on effective communications. Drive communication process improvements and implement best practices to manage projects efficiently. Manage brand delivery and consistency across NUSU's advertising streams. 2 9 To ensure compliance with NUSU’s internal procedures and all external legal requirements, including those around data on mobile devices. To monitor, and respond to changes in legislation as it affects NUSU, including GDPR. To be NUSU’s Data Controller. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Experience (Please address these within your covering letter): Essential Experience: • A degree level qualification in a relevant subject area, or be able to evidence an appropriate level of knowledge and experience directly related to the role. • Experience of successful leadership and management in a marketing and / or communications role. • Experience of contributing toward the strategic planning and growth of an organisation. • Demonstrable experience of owning strategic level marketing/communications and/or public relations activities end-to-end, including timelines, deliverable

Desirable Experience: • Experience of working effectively with Board Members, Trustees or Elected Officials. • Experience of delivering successful marketing, communication and/or PR activities in a multi-functional organisation. • Experience of delivering a digital first strategy. • Holder of or working towards a postgraduate or professional membership qualification with a CPD organisation in a relevant subject area e.g. Marketing, Communications, PR, Management or Leadership. Skills: • Competent in influencing and persuading across all levels of the organisation, its partners, stakeholders and members. • Comfortable dealing with numbers, particularly financial and budget management and the ability to interpret financial data. • A strategic thinker, you will be an organised planner who can see the bigger picture. • Have a creative and critical mind, adept at change management and able to employ tact and diplomacy. • Pro client in electronic campaigning, you will have a forward-thinking approach to digital and social media systems. • Commercial acumen to assess the value of digital projects. • Able to communicate a vision to others, and gain their support. • Ability to develop responsive corporate communications, through social media and with press. 3 Knowledge: • High level technical & functional knowledge to explain business problems to internal teams and cascade information effectively. • Evidence the use of analytics to drive outcomes
