Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) may occur as of- ten as 9 - 10 per 1,000 births. FASDs affect the way a child thinks, learns, develops, and behaves. FASDs can be con- fused with other conditions and go undiagnosed, and it is im- portant for those involved with children to be able to recog- nize risk factors and behaviors, know when and where to re- fer for diagnosis, and provide interventions to help affected children reach their full potential. Research shows that chil- dren with FASDs who receive appropriate interventions, es- pecially early in life, achieve better outcomes. In this workshop, information about characteristics of FASD, potential implications, and intervention strategies will be presented.
