2. What we doBiostatisticsThe Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource Facility (BSBI) strengthens the research capabilities and furthers the scientific rigor of cancer-related research by collaborating in all phases of protocol and grant development, data analysis and interpretation, and manuscript preparation at UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center. Clinical trials design, research study designs, data management and data analysis, epidemiology, health services outcome research, analysis of large national databases including SEER, NCDB, NISQIP, NHANES, BRFSS, NHIS, HINTS, and others.

3. What we DOBioinformaticsBSBI provides:Study planning - implementation of bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines for planning of preliminary analysis to provide investigators study design guidelines, power analysis, and sample size estimation; also project results, pitfalls, and alternative approaches to test hypotheses.Power and sample size of projects with bioinformatics component - based on preliminary analysis of preliminary data sets or similar data sets with similar experimental design or based on data mining of existing large data sets (TCGA). Data processing and data analysis methods - offers a wide range of data analysis, integration, and interpretation services, including a variety of -omics and multi-omics datasets (with UAB CCTS and the UAB Biological Data Science Core (U-BDS)).

4. Genomics (Exome and Whole Genome Sequencing data analysis); Transcriptomics (RNA-Seq, miRNA-Seq, single-cell/single-nuclei RNA-Seq, and CITE-Seq data analysis)Study design, quality and control, alignment, gene-level or transcript level quantification, differentially expressed gene lists, annotation, visualization, SNPs, indels, CNVs, structural variants, variant interpretation and classification, network analysis. Related applications to single-cell/single-nuclei RNA-Seq such as CITE-seq and spatial transcriptomics.Integrative analyses  Analysis spanning multiple data types including complex interpretation, visualization, and network analysesExample reports: https://www.uab.edu/cores/ircp/bds-services

5. ABOUT USThe BSBI supports the research studies of O’Neal Cancer Biology and Immunology (CBI), Cancer Control and Population Sciences (CCPS), Experimental Therapeutics (ET), and Neuro-Oncology (NO) Program members. BSBI personnel are leaders and collaborators who are involved early in all phases of protocol and grant development, data analysis and interpretation, and manuscript preparation; cancer studies from bench to bedside and beyond.
