1. Creating a dream catcher

2. In the BFG, the BFG took some people’s dreams to mix together. Dream catchersDo you know what a dream catcher is?

3. In the story ‘The BFG’, the BFG acts like a dream catcher- going to all the houses catching people’s dreams. Dream catchersA dream catcher is something that people use as they believe it is able to catch bad dreams. Dreamcatchers can come in all shapes and sizes. It is usually a small, wooden hoop, originally containing a horsehair mesh, or a similar construction of string or yarn and decorated with feathers and beads. They are believed to give its owner good dreams. Dreamcatchers were originally made by North American Indians by the Ojibwa Chippewa tribe.

4. Dream catchersNative Americans believe that the night air is filled with dreams, both good and bad.So, why don’t the dream catchers stop all dreams? Nowadays, they are not always made from these materials and instead can be made from materials like plastic and cotton. The hoop is traditionally constructed from a bent Red Willow branch covered in stretched sinews. Wrapping the frame in leather is another common finishing touch among "real" dream catchers.

5. Dream catchersGood Dreams: The Ojibwa believed that good dreams are light as air. Good dreams can wander gently through the night, and make their way down to a sleeping child, through the feathers and twigs of a dream catcher.Bad dreamsThe dream catchers catches them in its web. The bad dreams are tangled in the catcher. There they stay, trapped, until morning, when the sun rises and sends them away.

6. Task- Make your own dream catcherFor today’s lesson, we would like you to try and make your own dream catcher using a paper plate. Watch the video to help you and see the next slide for extra tips.

7. Once you have firstly cut the centre out of your plate, you can colour or paint the plate however you would like. Make sure if your painting to leave it to dry. Poke evenly spaced holes on the inner edge of your plate and weave a piece of coloured string or cotton through the holes. You could add some beads onto the cotton if you have any after you have weaved one end through the hole. If you do not have a paper plate, you could cut a large ring out of a piece of card or few pieces of paper put together. You could also add some feathers (or make your own feathers out of paper) onto the end of some string and weave these on to. Make sure you also make a hole in the top of your dreamcatcher and tie this to be able to hang it up
