1 | Page YOBE STATE MINISTRY OF HEALT H Situation Report TITLE COVID - 19 Pandemic Situation R eport SE RIAL NUMBER 156 EPID - WEEK 10 DATE 8 – 14 March 2021 HIGHLIGHTS :  No new confirme d case w as reported in week 10  The total number o f confirmed COVID - 19 cases remains two hundred and ninety - three (293 ) , and t wenty (20) patients have recovered  The total number of d eaths from COVID - 19 is nine (9)  Two thousand, two hundred and ninety - three ( 2,293) samples were collected in week 10. This is a very significant [40 - fold] increase in sample collection compared to the preceding week.  This increase is mainly due to the commencement of the WHO - supported Active Case Search (ACS), conta ct tracing & sample collection strategies in high - risk areas & peripheral health facilities.  However, o n ly 22 samples were tested due to a technical problem developed by the state testing machine. The 22 test results are all negative, and the remaining samples have been preserved for testing after quick breakdown maintenance [ to commence tomorrow]  Yobe SMOH and SPHCMB received 61,630 doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID vaccine for the vaccination of frontline health workers  The SPHCMB, in collabor ation with WHO , UNICEF, and partners, has compl eted preparations including the training of 2001 vaccinators at the state , LGA , and w ard levels

to administer COVID - 19 vaccine to frontline health workers across the state  The flag - off of the COVID - 19 vaccination by the His Excellen cy, the State Executive Governor, i s set to take place in week 11 [ 18 March 2021].  Yobe SPHCMB, with support from WHO through the Active Case Search strategy, conducted sensitization for 25,869 households on COVID - 19 prevention in high - burden LGAs. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUMMARY :  The total number of confirmed COVID - 19 cases is two hundred and nine ty - three ( 293 ). Seventy - nine ( 79 ) cases fro m Damaturu, fif ty - eight (58 ) cases from Nguru , thirty (30 ) cases from Fika, twenty - nine 2 | Page cases (29) cases from Potiskum, twenty - seven ( 27 ) cases from Bade , twenty - five (25 ) cases from Nangere , nine (9) cases from Jakusko seven (7 ) cases from Karasuwa, six (6) cases from Yusufari, five (5) cases from Tarmuwa , four (4) cases from Gujba, and Fune, three (3) cases each from Gulani , and Bursari, and Geidam have two (2) cases , and tw o ( 2 ) other LGAs ( Yunusari , and Mac hina ) have one (1) case each  The total number of active confirmed cases in the state is five ( 5 )  T he t otal confirmed cases of COVID - 19 amongst Health Care Workers (HCWs) is nine t een (1 9 ). om COVID - 19 in the s tate is nine (9 )  T he t otal number of patients who recovered from COVID - 19 is two hundred and seven ty - nine ( 27 9 )  The total number of contacts who completed 14 days of monitoring without symptoms is one thousand , seven hundred and ninety - one ( 1 , 791 )  The total num ber of samples collected i s eight thousand , three hundred and nineteen ( 8,319 ). Two hundred and nine ty - three ( 293 ) results are positive, five thousand , seven hundred and thirteen ( 5 , 713 ) are negative, forty - two (4 2 ) for a repeat test , and two thousand, two hundred and seventy - one ( 2,271 ) remaining sample results are pending. Surveillance and Epidemiology:  All 17 LGAs in Yobe state have now recorded confirmed COVID - 19 case ( s )  The case fatality rate amongst confirmed cases is 3.1 %  T he positivity rate for week 10 is 0 %, which represents a de crease compared to the p ositivity rate of the preceding week ( 9.4 % ) . The case to contact ratio is 1: 6  The percentage of contacts that were confirmed positive is 5 . 5 %  One hundred and two (102 ) contacts have co mpleted 14 days of monit oring without symptoms  Yobe SPHCMB, with support from the WHO ACS team, conducted sensitization for 25,869 households on COVID - 19 prevention across 17 LGAs of the state. Point of Entry (POE):  Conducted screening of passengers at the Points of Entries ( POEs )  Con ducted supportive supervision at the POE in Bade, Potiskum, and Nguru LGAs. Case Management :  No new admission in week 10  Twenty (20 ) patients have recovered and were discharged from isolation facilities . 7 | Page Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):  Conducted decontamination and disinfection of SSH molecular diagnostic laboratory, SSH Damaturu , and FMC Nguru Is olation centers  Conducted decontamination and disinfection of h ouse holds of confirmed cases  The SPHCMB, in collaboration with the WHO communications team, conducted motorized awareness creation campaigns in high - burden LGAs of Dama turu, Bade,

Risk Communication and Social Mobilization:  The SPHCMB, in collaboration with the WHO communications team , conducted the motorize d campaign in high - burden LGAs of Dama turu, Bade, Potiskum, and Nguru  Yobe SMOH , in collaboration with WHO HTR teams and AVADAR informants, UNICEF VCMs, and CGPP volunteers, conducted mass comm unity sensitization, reaching 8,401 people with COVID - 19 preven tion messages  The SPHCMB and CRS, with support from WHO, conducted mass community sensitization through radio jingles and phone - in program s at Yobe State Broadcasting Cooperation (YBC) and Radio Nigeria Sunshine on FM 88.1. CHALLENGES:  B reakdown of the COVID - 19 testing machine leading low COVID - 19 testin g in week 10  Non - state Armed Groups (NSAGs) attacks on hospitals and PHC centers are disrupting COVID - 19 response and health services in the affected LGAs (Geidam and Gujba LGAs) 8 | Page  Insecurity and military operations are limiting contact tracing, active case search, and community sensitization in security - compromised LGAs  Bad geograph ical is limiting access to remote communities to sustain COVID - 19 prevention activities . NEXT STEP(S ) :  Facilitate an urgent deployment of T echnicians to carry - out machine b reakdown maintenance  Continue ACS, contact tracing, and sample collection in remote LGAs and communities  Continue daily COVID - 19 response and SERICC coordination meetings preparatory to the commencement of the vaccination exercise  Scale - up Hard - To - Reach (HTR) mobile h ealth services in Geidam and Gujba LGA s to mitigate the impacts of disruption of health services due to the attacks on health care and COVID - 19 pandemic  Continue sensitization an d capacity building for community stakeholders to reduce fear and stigmatization , and lead C OVID - 19 control efforts in remot e and security - compromised communi
