New YearSlide4

Reason for the title of the Series

Why Strong and courageous?

You hold on

to certain

things and you need to be strong in order to reach your goals and your promise land.Slide5

Goal of the series

Hopefully by the end of the series, that we will gain the spiritual strength and courage to take hold of God’s promises in GREATER measures in the midst of opposition and adversity.Slide6

Overview of the Series

Week 1 – Be Strong

Week 2 – Start Strong

Week 3 – Stand Strong

Week 4 – Stay StrongSlide7

What is the Promise Land

Deuteronomy

11:10

The

land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden.Slide8

What is the Promise Land

Deuteronomy

11:11

But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven

.Slide9

What is the Promise Land

Deuteronomy 11:12

It is a land the LORD your God cares for…

the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.Slide10

Reaching the Promise land won’t be easy

Since the time of Moses, God has given a promise to the Israelite but it took the Israelites 40 years before reaching the promise land.

Exodus 13:17

17

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter … For God said, “if they face war, they might change their minds

&

return to Egypt.”Slide11
Slide12

Reflection: It’s not about the destination, it’s the journey.

It’s not about the promise land it’s about the walk with God.Slide13

Illustration of walk with God: Climbing the Mt. EverestSlide14

Reason why God allowed the Israelites to undergo challenges

So that they may know that He is their God.

Exodus 6:7

I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God, and you shall know that I am the

Lord

your God, who has brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.Slide15

Why God allows and will allow us to experience challenges this 2016

That we may know God and that we may understand that we belong to him. Slide16

Week 1: Be Strong – The Crossing of the Jordan River

Book of Joshua

Joshua was the successor of Moses after Moses died.

During his time,

they

were almost in the promise land after Moses died.

Now they are about to cross the Jordan River.Slide17

Joshua 1:1-9

1

After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.  Slide18

5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

6

Be strong and courageous

, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.

 Slide19

7

Be strong and very courageous

. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Slide20

Be

strong and courageous

. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”Slide21

What does being strong and courageous means

?Slide22

“To be strong and courageous means to be confident

Confident

in what?

Having the faith that you will reach your promise land.Slide23

3 Reasons to be Strong and Courageous

1. Because

You are walking on God’s Purpose

Joshua 1:6

6

Be strong and courageous

, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.Slide24

2. Because you are obeying

the Word of God

Joshua 1:9

9 Have I not commanded you?

Be strong and courageous

Heart of the Message for today

If

you want to be strong and courageous, if you want to reach you promise land, if you want

to receive

the blessings of God,

you

have to understand that God is present with you always.

Central Point:

We can be strong and courageous because the Lord our God is with us. He is all mighty and powerful and will always be with us wherever we go.Slide28

CONCLUSION

Deuteronomy 1:29-31

29 Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. 30 The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you,

as a father carries his son

, all the way you went until you reached this place.”Slide29

Psalms 118:8

It

is

better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.Slide30

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
