About Armentières
The town was entirely rebuilt after being destroyed in World War I, and its red brick buildings present a uniform appearance.
Armentières
was 3 km behind the battle line throughout most of World War I, and from April until October 1918 it was occupied by the Germans. During World War II the town was bombed and was again taken over by the Germans from May 1940 until September 1944.Slide4

Then, of course, there’s the cheese, especially the “Vieux Lille” cheese, nicknamed the “Lille stinker” for its strong smell.
For desert, there is “

” (light or dark sugar made from sugar syrup), which is found in crème caramel (custards), the famous filled waffles, and "
babeluttes
