CCC - Instrumental Music Benefits to person musical skills and abilities: The exposed nature of performing in a solo environment creates personal accountability for oneÕs playing. There is no more hiding behind your peers. It is just you and your horn. A veteran of solo contest will have an increased level of precision. Students gain a lot of quality in their playing, especially in their tone. Benefits to performance ability: the experience will help you play more accurately and precisely with the band. As you have become more responsible and better at playing from contest, you will become more of a leader within your group. Finally, all of this (your increased performance skills, your higher level of interaction between the band, and your influence on others) will help the band do better in their group performances. Your independence at contest will help your interdependence in the band. Life and Career Skills Learned: These skills must all be learned to succeed in life and you can learn them all by participating in the solo contest experience: ¥ Accountability ¥ Responsi Presentation/performance skill ¥ Time management ¥ Confidence building ¥ Communication ¥ Coordi as well as help to turn students into the kind of people that colleges would like to admit. He participated in over 10 solo contests in his high school career, including going to State 3 years in a row. In his senior year, he received 2nd place in state on Euphonium. His experiences at solo contest have helped him earn $14,500/year in scholarships from his school, George Fox University, alone. He expects more scholarships to come from his experiences.
