FOUNDATION UPDATES While many of our programs have been delayed or cancelled, we are actively working on other projects to fulll our mission. We have been collaborating with community members to create a water safety video that will be shared by over a dozen partners through the Indy Aquatic Alliance. We have been working with the IAA on strategic planning to prevent drowning among all populations throughout Indianapolis and beyond. In addition, we have also been working directly with the Riviera Club’s Board of Directors to create opportunities to improve our club. FOUNDATION May 2020 FUNDRAISING The Riviera Club Foundation is working with the Riviera Club’s Board of are looking into projects to improve the campus and benet our members for years to come. Last year, the Riviera Club Foundation received a grant for a million dollars improvements to our historical outdoor pool. While we will continue to search for additional grant money, we will also be looking to our members to invest in the future of the club by donating to our capital campaign and donors to make tax deferred charitable donations. We look forward to sharing these plans with you when they are ready. If you would like to make a donation, you may do so at rivi.org or email our information. Thank you very much for your continued support we look forward to see you when we re-open! NATIONAL WATER SAFETY MONTH - MAY tips, facts and statistics on our Instagram and Facebook accounts. Please follow us! #rivifoundation This spring we had plans to teach water safety to many surrounding IPS schools. When it was announced on March 12 that schools would be closed we had to nd a new way to spread this important message. After a week or two we noticed the world quickly changed to teaching via e-learning and zoom meetings. Naturally, we decided this would be a great way to teach water safety. In addition, we will be able to reach a greater audience. We are proud to have found speakers from a variety of backgrounds to provide important stories and advice to help keep you and your loved ones safe. In the video you will hear our message encouraging you to “think twice” when making decisions around water. DONATE TODAY! RIVI.ORG “SPONSOR-A -SWIMMER” This winter we launched a fundraiser to Sponsor-A-Swimmer. Our campaign was only live for a few weeks before COVID-19 changed everything. During that time we were able to raise money to sponsor 65 kids to receive a swim lesson and a swimsuit. We have since reached out to IPS and will plan on pushing back lessons to Winter 2021. We will also provide lessons to matches from Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Indiana when restrictions perm

it. This campaign is crucial to bridge the gap in accessibility to water safety. According to the American Red Cross, 79% of children in households with incomes less than $50,000 have few to no swimming skills. The median household income in Indianapolis in 2017 was $47,225. Children in Indianapolis will not have an opportunity to learn how to swim or basic life-saving water safety or without the support of the community. Thank you very much to everyone who has donated to this campaign. We appreciate your continued support as we are able to roll out this program. COMMUNITY GARDEN - The Riviera Club Foundation Community Garden was established in Winter 2020. The Flower Power Group reached out to us with the unique opportunity for our groups to work together in a mutually benecial way. They explained by working with a foun - dation they would be eligible to receive Master Gardener volunteers and grant money from the Purdue Extension Master Gardeners. We came up with the idea to have a community garden. The garden will provide opportunities for volunteering, produce to be enjoyed and donated, educational opportunities, and making a beautiful addition to our campus at the Riviera Club. Planning for the garden began in January. Several meetings took place to decide the structure of the garden, what type of beds to build, materials, plants, recruiting and managing volunteers, grant writing, generating additional donations, and more. Prior to the pandemic, we selected the date of April 18th to build the four raised beds. We made adjustments to our plan and split the workers into two groups ensuring there were no more than seven volunteers present at any given time. The weather was beautiful that day and volunteers worked hard from 9:30 a.m. until after 3 p.m. A few days later wood chips were donated by TREEO and spread around the beds to complete the area. In early May, plants were added to beds and pots. We would like to encourage you to watch the garden grow this summer and fall. If you would like to volunteer to help the Flower Power Group, please send an email to jburkholder@rivifoundation.org to be added to our weekly email. UPCOMING EVENTS APRIL-NOVEMBER • Community Garden volunteers meet Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Send an email to jburkholder@rivifoundation.org if you would like to participate.
