1. SIX-ROOM-POEM

2. In the first room …Find something outside that is:AmazingBeautiful orInterestingBring it back to our meeting.

3. Now close your eyes …Look at it carefully. Notice all the details about itAnd describe it as accurately as you canDon’t think of writing a poemJust try to describe it and write your description in the first box

4. In the second room …Think only about the light. In your “mind’s eye” remember what you saw outside. Was the sun bright? Or was it a gray day, may dull and flat? Were there any shadows?

5. If you can’t remember the light, you might have to use some “poetic license” and make it upYou can also describe colorsOr just describe things caused by light, like it’s shine or sparkles.

6. In the third room …Think about what you heard as you were looking for your object. Do you remember any voices?Rustling of leaves?Sound of rain?If it was silent – what kind of silence? Empty? Lonely? Peaceful?

7. In room number four …Write down any questions you have about your finding.Anything you want to know more about?Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?Or wonder about …?

8. In the fifth roomWrite down any feelings you have about the thing you are describing.

9. Finally, in room number six …Look over the five rooms and select one word, or a few words, a phrase, a line, or a sentence that feels important and repeat it three times.

10. Now create a poem …Read over what you wrote in the six rooms, and create a poem. You can re-arrange the rooms in any order, eliminate rooms, words, or sentences. Play around with everything until you really like what you have.
