HEY THERE!

My name is

LeeAnn Whittemore

(that’s me!)

And I want to be your new Marketing Assistant

Slide2

BEFORE I GET TO THE

Let’s get to know each other a little better…

OF MY QUALIFICATIONS

Slide3

A

I’m originally from Indiana, but now live on the Gulf Coast of Florida

LITTLE

BIT

ABOUT

ME

(peace out, winter!)

I studied at Roosevelt University in Chicago

I love writing and art

I worked as a graphic designer for nearly a decade

I am OBSESSED with podcasts

I believe telecommuting is the future of business

As an undergrad, I once wrote an email to a friend in which I called research writing assignments “my one true love”

(where I earned my degree in English with a Creative Writing focus)

(now I work as a freelance writer)

(and it makes me happy to see more businesses figuring this out)

(still true!)

finally!

Slide4

But enough about me…

LET’S TALK ABOUT

YOU

FOR A MINUTE…

Slide5

WHY DO I WANT TO WORK FOR

THE CONTENT FACTORY?

Let me count the reasons…

Slide6

1

I WANT TO

RE-FOCUS

RE-FOCUS

MY CAREER

I am hungry to re-focus my career and gain experience working for a broader client base, instead of just one business.

I’m excited to combine my writing, design, and marketing abilities into a new career path where I can exercise the full value of my skillset.

Slide7

2

I WANT TO

LEARN

LEARN

FROM THE BEST

Re-focusing my career means I’ve got new things to learn.

I want the opportunity to learn from folks who are already pros at the work I’m interested in

(so I can become one too!)

Slide8

3

I BELIEVE IN THE

TELECOMMUTING

TELECOMMUTING

BENEFITS OF

A lack of work-life balance can really dry up the ol’ soul. I want to work for a company that understands the benefit of quality results and not just quantity of hours worked.

I want to work hard and be a dedicated employee for a company where I feel like part of a team,

not just another cog in the

machine.

Slide9

4

I LOVE

MARKETING

MARKETING

I am fascinated by both the art and science of marketing. Marketing exists at the intersection of creativity, research, and psychology.

I’d like to live at that intersection

(too bad it’s metaphorical).

Slide10

5

I WANT TO BE PART OF A

GREAT COMPANY

GREAT COMPANY

I hate that listless feeling that comes from spending 8+ hours a day treading water instead of producing great work.

I don’t just want to learn from the TCF crew, I want to become an integral part of it

FOR A LONG TIME

– and

stay a part of it for a long, long time.

Slide11

NOW IT’S TIME FOR SOME OF THAT

Why should you hire

me?

I MENTIONED EARLIER

Good to see you again!

Slide12

FIRST, LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT MY PREVIOUS ROLES

Freelance Writer

, The ManualI currently work as a freelance writer for The Manual, a digital magazine. I write lifestyle content in a variety of verticals.

Design and Marketing Lead, Allen Monument CompanyI previously worked for a small business in Indiana that designed, manufactured, and sold memorials. I led all creative projects for the company, including digital memorial designs and marketing content. I started at the company as an on-site employee, but worked as a full-time telecommuter for the last two years.Assistant Creative Services Manager

, The Paper of Montgomery CountyI started my career at a local newspaper in my hometown. I designed all advertising for the daily publication, and I also helped to oversee special projects.

Slide13

MY

WRITING DEGREE & EXPERIENCE

My bachelor’s degree is in English with a focus on Creative Writing. The knowledge I gained from my studies goes beyond just being able to string some words together: it also taught me how to harness creativity into multiple mediums, pick apart the elements of other writers’ styles to learn from their expertise, and conduct thorough, accurate research.

I can shift my tone and focus according to a specific client or product’s needs.

I can conduct thorough research with an eye toward the information a specific company’s customers will find most valuable.

I can brainstorm new content ideas based on a company or brand’s desired voice.

I can create designs and copy that are modern, fresh, and approachable without feeling gimmicky.

As a freelancer, I dive into brand new topics and quickly educate myself on products or services I’m writing about, both through independent research and by interviewing subject matter experts.

As a design & marketing lead at Allen Monument Company, I had to educate customers about dry but important information about our products and industry. Careful research was critical, as was developing a brand voice that was equal parts compassionate and informative.

As an ad designer at The Paper, I juggled multiple clients, each with their own specific brand needs and visions. Advertising had to do more than just look good on the page – it had to properly express the advertiser’s voice as well.

HOW HAVE I USED THESE SKILLS IN MY CAREER SO FAR?

WHY DOES THIS MEAN YOU SHOULD HIRE ME?

Slide14

MY PROFESSIONAL

DESIGN EXPERIENCE

On top of a lifelong love of art, I have worked as a designer in some capacity for my entire career. I began my career as an advertising designer for a local newspaper, and later became the lead designer for a small monument company in my hometown.

I have a love of and an eye for current design trends as well as timeless design fundamentals.

I have a detailed understanding of image specifications as they relate to both print and digital content.

I have experience in obtaining high quality images from multiple sources – including PR representatives, internal company design teams, and stock image resources.

I can create original graphics in both vector and raster format for use across multiple mediums (I created several custom graphics – including the self-portrait and Pink Lady icon series – for this presentation).

As a freelancer, I source and review images to accompany all of the content I write. This requires knowledge of ideal image specifications as well as an eye for what types of visual elements make for appealing digital content.

As a design & marketing lead at Allen Monument Company, I was the head designer for every monument we created. I also created graphics and design concepts for all of the company’s marketing materials – both print and digital, B2B and B2C.

As an ad designer at The Paper, I created print advertising for local businesses. This often required adherence to strict visual brand guidelines. I was also the final editor for all Creative Services projects, which involved detailed layout work to prep for printing.

HOW HAVE I USED THESE SKILLS IN MY CAREER SO FAR?

WHY DOES THIS MEAN YOU SHOULD HIRE ME?

Slide15

MY

TELECOMMUTING EXPERIENCE

& ABILITY TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY

I have been at least partially telecommuting in every position I’ve had so far in my career. In my last position – as a lead designer and marketing manager – I worked as a full-time telecommuting employee for two years. I have a dedicated home office, reliable internet, and the ability to get my work done without anyone looking over my shoulder.

Working independently and from a home office has made me into an impeccably organized self-starter and an eager problem-solver.

Through years of telecommuting, I have turned my office into a sanctuary of productivity, and I love it that way. No letting my latest craft project take over one corner of the room. No lingering after my work is done and muddying the room’s purpose.

I am able to communicate professionally and effectively through a variety of channels, including email, phone, and chat.

I never need hand-holding when it comes to getting my work done on time, and I never leave my teammates or clients hanging on work in progress.

As a freelancer, I manage my own calendar, monitor my own work pace and results, schedule and conduct my own interviews, all while staying on strict deadline.

As a design & marketing lead at Allen Monument Company, I maintained the design calendar for all of our creative and marketing work. I had to be able to quickly and thoughtfully prioritize to-do’s for the entire creative department in order to meet delivery deadlines.

I’ve used a number of scheduling and communication tools in my career, including Basecamp, Trello, Google Calendar, and SharePoint.

In each of my roles, I have spent a lot of time either working independently or leading a department. I have honed my organizational and time management skills to make the most out of my working hours.

HOW HAVE I USED THESE SKILLS IN MY CAREER SO FAR?

WHY DOES THIS MEAN YOU SHOULD HIRE ME?
