Due to multiple customer requests, library staff have implemented this expensive service initially in just two locations to ascertain its use. An instructional handout is available for the user. Initial comments have been positive. This service will be assessedand if successful, itmay be expanded to other branches. 2.Grants SubmittedThe following grants have been written and submitted to the State Library:Library Services Technology Act (LSTA) Grant:Digital Library @ DSSDepartment of Social Services). A iosk loaded with electronic materials will be installed at DSS to give access to books and eaudio materials to serve that population.LSTAGrant: Second Chance @ Successthis grant was written to providea collectionof job and career materials for providers of services for exoffenders.publisher who produces several different titles, games and other paraphernalia targeting the employment needs of exoffenders was selected.The materials were reviewed and approved bylocal expertsEdgeGrant(State Library)This is a technologyrelated grantPlayaway Lockswill be purchasedthe grant is funded. evices would be available for checkout.3.American Library Association ALA) Grants ReceivedCumberland County Public Library was one of 25 librariesnationwideto receive the, Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Great Stories Clubgrant. This is a series of book discussions held at the Ramsey Street Alternative School. Emerging Adult Services Librarian Kohnee Harmon will be attending an orientation workshop in Aprilin Chicago as a stipulation of the grantCumberland County Public Library wasone of75 libraries nationwideto receive the NASA @ My Library grantYS Division Manager Megan Smith attended a required workshopin Denver on Lunar and Meteorite Disc Certification. As a result of completing this certification course, the library can now request lunar and meteorite samples to use at progams.Revisiting the Founding Era Grant: This grant encourages an appreciation of the Founding Era through community conversations. It will also provide community members with the means to explore modern issues in light of Founding Era history. Cumberland County Public Library is one1 of 100 libraries awarded this nationwide grant. The grant includes a $1,000 stipend to support programmingwo programs will be presented including one that is youtfocused. Implementation will be during September 2018.4.Successful Grant Celebrate100 Days of KindergartenThe LSTA School Success Grantwas received and implemented this past year. This grant providemany program and service opportunities and oneof the grant’s activities wascalled 100 Days of Kindergarten. Photographs showed variousdisplays at branches. One example of an activity in support of the activity wasa counting exercise that encourages children to build skills. At the February program 17people attended. This series is a partnership between the library and the Quaker House, NOW and the Human Relations Commission of Fayetteville). Kirk deVierespoke at the February program aboutthe Pathways for Prosperity initiative.The Friends of the Library sponsored a great band for FebruaryFourth Friday(February 23)he Piney Woods Boysperformed for114 attendeesPlant a Kiss: Story Time & Craft 11 attendeesAfrican American History Bingo & Craft 6 attendeesThe Smash Brothers Tournament had7 attendeesThe library participated in the Read Across America program9.Library in the NewsThe library had an ad in a recent Fayetteville Observer Saturday ExtraGuide to Summer CampsCityView Familymagazine publishedan article about the library’s Geek Squad for seniors programThe library placedan ad in the publication, Hola FayettevilleVice Chair Daniel Montoya also wrote an article for the publication.The library’s monthly Work Force Developmentreport is being incorporated into the Work Force Development Board’smonthly newsletter.10.Outreach ActivitiesCool Springs Clubhouse GrandOpeningBlack History Month Event @ E.E. Smith High SchoolStaff training on Effective OutreachFayetteville ObserverSpelling Bee library staff participated asjudgesDr. Seuss Family Fun Daywas held in Spring Lake 600 people stopped by the library’s boothFayetteville City Social was held at E.E. Smith High SchoolCommissioner Adams and Miss Fayetteville visited the library’s table. The library’s PLINKOboard was very popular.Deputy Director Cotina Jones gave a presentation at the recent Citizens’ Academy sessionat North Regional libraryThe participants’evaluations were highly favorable11.Free LED Lightbulbs from Duke EnergyThree branches (East, Hope Mills and Spring Lake) will be receiving free LED Lightbulbs thanks to a grant from Duke Energy. They will

Friends Board members have been asked to promote Friends Membershipand LEF givingat various programs. The nextcommittee meetingwill be on March 2714.National Library Workers’ Day during National Library WeekApril 10is National Library Workers’Day. The library is working on some activities to celebrate the day and recognize library staff. A proclamation is being developed forthe Commissioners to approve. The public will have an opportunity to comment on how much they appreciatethe library and library staff.15.HeadquartersLibrary Closed During the Dogwood FestivalDue to the need for use of our parking lot for people with disabilities, the Headquarters library will be closed on Saturday & Sunday, April 2829.16.CountySponsoredLegislators’ BreakfastThe breakfast was held on Friday, March 9in the Courthouse.Director Risacher askedfor support to increase State Aid funding$21.7M from the current level of 14.7M over aperiod of three to four years.This request represents the strategy of the public library directors’ professional association to increase the stagnant funding.17.Library’s Awardwinning Annual eport & UpdateThe library’s FY 2017 Annual Report won 2place for Best Niche Publication. It wasdesigned by Eddie Harries of the Fayetteville Observer18.Y 2019 Library Budget UpdateDirector Risacher, Deputy Director Cotina Jonesand Business Manager Jessica Hullender met with Assistant County Manager Duane Holder on February 21. This meeting’s purpose was to review and communicate the library’s approach to the budget and the supplemental requestseight new positions and an upgrade of one positionMr. Holder reminded the groupof the continuing restraints on the

New servicesimplementedinclude Microfilm Scannerrinting capability from Mobile Phones, iPads for Kids, 3D Printers, Coding and Lego Robots.Trustees were given an update on savings generated by the completion of the printer phout project and alarm system conversion to wireless services.Spring Lake Branch Report Branch Manager Gloria NelsonNelson gave a brief update on the Spring Lake branch. Photographs introduced the staff and she sharedthe history of the branch.Also included were photos of theEclipse programs from last Augusteen/TeenNail Art program and thefairly newTeen omputer Lab. Nelson concluded with an overview of her community involvement.OtherBusiness M OTION : Chair Tyler moved to disband the Ad - hoc Art Acquisition Policy Review committee since it has completed the task .
