Challenges met during construction were resolved effectively with advocacy from the BIA:
BIA ADVOCACY: REACTIVE STEPS
CHALLENGE
Lacking communication from construction company; e.g. businesses were not being given enough
notice about service disruptions, road
closures etc
.
SOLUTION
IBI Group hired a communications liaison to be the BIA’s point person for the daily goings-on and project updates
CHALLENGE
Construction delays
CHALLENGE
Construction fatigue among businesses
SOLUTION
BIA successfully submitted a noise exemption request to have crews work later into the evening and on weekends so work would be completed quicker
SOLUTION
BIA facilitated a membership vote to determine whether or not to continue with the second stage of Phase 1 or take a break to help businesses recover some losses
CHALLENGE
Road closures caused guests to completely avoid the area and traffic to businesses decreased
SOLUTION
BIA successfully requested only one lane of the road to be closed at a time, leaving the other open for through traffic and levy reductions were provided
