COVID-19 (Coronavirus) STATEMENT FROM THE FINA SPORTS MEDICINE COMMISSION FINA is aware of the increasing public health concern for the potential spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). All event Host Organising Committees should refer to information provided by the IOC Medical Department. This information is attached for your convenience and discusses strategies for major event organisation based on advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Commission of the FINA Sports Medicine Committee fully endorses the IOC position on this matter and encourages hosts of FINA events to familiarize themselves with common public health strategies that will minimise the risk of spreading any infectious disease. FINA will ensure that any updates to these guidelines will be immediately distributed to all Member Federations. In particular we wish to draw the following points to your attention: 1. Any athlete who is unwell or has been exposed to affected individuals should not travel and should seek local medical advice. 2. All teams should follow their current national and international recommendations on travel, acknowledging that these are being updated frequently. 3. All athletes in close training situations should continue to exercise sensible precautions to minimise person to person transmission of any infection.
