Description

I could learn from the title starry night that the painting will focus on the night and stars. I see stars that are

shining and a

moon that is bright. I also spotted a small village illuminated by the stars. I see wind that is in motion. I also noticed a silhouette of a mountain. Van Gogh used lines to express wind. He also used the lines to show shining stars. He applied shapes for the land scape and buildings. He utilized form for his stars, buildings and the hills. He manipulated color to express his feeling. Van Gogh used texture to show the area has grassy plains. He used space to show that the sky keeps going. The media he used was oil on canvas.Slide3

Analysis

Van Gogh applied

emphasis on the star and moon to emphasis that they are shining. He used balance to balance the dark and the light of the masterpiece. He

utilized proportion on the mountain and village the proportion look natural because they look like it fits. He manipulates lines to create pattern on the stars, moon, and wind to make them the attraction of the painting. There is movement on the wind to make it look like a windy night. Lines and space bring the work together because it makes it look right. Texture and color add variety to the masterpiece because it make look like there is more.Slide4

Interpretation

There

is symbolism on the whole painting I think it’s supposed to show how he felt at the time. I think he wanted us have hope to get through the night. When my eyes get watery there is a shine on every light like the stars in the painting. It could relate to every difficult moment in the world and how people feel. I think he was trying to communicate that his stars are bright and he has more hope now than he did.vgvSlide5

Overall

the masterpiece was a success because it shows a lot of emotion but the part that has the most success is the sky because it’s the stronger part of the work. He was a post-impressionist so most of his artwork is blurry but with structure and that is what you have to focus on when you judge it. His work is unique because you don’t see other artist doing what he did. His form of artwork also makes him unique because you don’t see anything like it. I think that he doesn’t need any improvements his art is great and I don’t see and mistake.
