4. What events are in the Commonwealth Games? The Games sports are divided into three main types: core sports, optional sports, and recognised sports.Sixteen core sports and four core para-sports must be included in the Games programme. The host nation may choose to include a number of optional sports and disciplines.

This was the first time an event for an athlete with a disability had been part of the official programme.Women’s boxing became a mainstay of the Commonwealth Games in 2014 when Team England’s Nicola Adams won the first gold medal in the flyweight division.
