“Dynamic nature of the landscape” ! – national picture SFA / BIS ( now ESFA / IFA ) / DFE – volume and number of changes – policy and small details / systemsESFA

Reflections & Observations - ISlide10

Reflections & Observations - IIRoATP / Procurement process– uncertainty created through new register processEmployer / applicant uncertainty / lack of clarity – SME issue for new providers

UWE learning new set of ESFA protocols/rules/agreementsTimescales for whole project – multiple unknowns – employers, applicants, EPA, …….What is a DA – how is it different / similar to existing provision ?Level 6/7 DA – different skill set / expectations – impact of EPA rather than portfolio of competencies as with frameworksImpact / benefit to core UGrad programmesSlide11

SHU – Professional degree model

From – SHU Work based learning frameworkSlide12

Discussion - DA@UWE – USP ??What is that we can offer / provide that differentiates a UWE DA from others ?

Evolution vs Revolution ? - Day release / block release / blended ??What existing models / approaches do we have already we could adapt ?20% off the job - Level 6/7 Graduate attributes – how do we make effective use of apprentice/student led learning/reflection Role of on-line / e-based – delivery, assessment – formative / summative, feedback ? WBL – what’s the UWE definition / interpretation ?Employer input/requirements ? Mentoring, assessing, feedback ??Slide13

Learning takes place at university and in place of work/employment. Guided / Directed learning

– domain specific knowledge and skills – delivered at the university using face to face, blended, labs/workshops etc. Academic led, content, pace, focus is set by the module leader as with conventional teaching/modules.Work / Employment based learning – UWE DA’s integrate work place / employment based learning activities – apprentice/student led projects and activities in the workplace. Undertaken by the apprentice/student with direction from academic – investigate how your company does …., what is your company strategy for …, or independently managed by apprentice/student –

ie individual project/dissertation.Two facets –Personal/professional development – study skills, report writing, comms skills, team work, leadership Domain knowledge / expertise – needed to know to do the job/ role – as defined by the standard/assessment plan
