College and Career Planning for Underclassmen

Freshmen:Introduction to who I am and what I doDispel the myth that my Freshman year doesn’t matter in the college search or that my religion grade doesn’t count.Teach them how GPA’s are calculated, help them to understand how each successive semester has a less significant impact on the overall GPA, what is a transcript vs a report card, and the importance of a positive academic trend.Enforce fact that everyone will be college ready by the time they graduate. Their grades should reflect their potential. If not, it is

their

responsibility, not that of the parents, teachers, or counselors. Slide6

Multiple smaller sections, but main scoring divisions are critical reading, math and writing.Scoring ranges from 200-800 for a max score of 2400, but the primary evaluable scores are the critical reading and mathematics sections which have a combined max score of 1600.SATs are offered in: Jan, March, May, June, Oct, Nov, and December

Currently Shrine is not a national testing site for the SATSlide14

2016/17 Standardized Test Fees

Last Slide on Testing…I promise

Students who qualify for an SAT fee waiver will automatically receive 4 college application fee waivers uploaded to their SAT account. I am paying very close attention to the current trend of universities no longer requiring the writing portion of the SAT or ACT. Stay tuned….Slide16

Summary

The standardized testing environment is rapidly changing and will continue to change. The best recipe for success is a challenging college preparatory curriculum.Shrine students will continue to be exposed to both testing platforms.Students can take either or both tests for college admission consideration.

THEY ARE VIEWED EQUALLY

, but some students test more favorably on one of the formats.

Standardized tests are only one factor in a holistic admissions review.
