Active Engagement: Conclusion
In “Raymond’s Run” the reader learns that being protective and closed off can sometimes elicit a negative image to others. Squeaky is perceived by some to be an
unlikeable character. This perception is in part due to her negativity, boastfulness, and the fact that she always seems to be looking for a fight. These qualities, in turn, make it difficult for Squeaky to make friends
and lead some to identify her as being an unlikeable character. As reader’s we should however remember you can’t always tell a book by its cover.
Our claim statement from the introduction:
Throughout
the story, Bambara shows Squeaky to be an
unlikeable character
because she is
negative, always looking for a fight, and conceited
,
and these qualities make it hard for others to be friends with
her. Slide6
