Accident Avoidance Workshops Implementation Information How is this different from “driver’s ed ”? “ Driver’s ed” focuses exclusively on Normal Driving Conditions. Laws, lines, signs … basically how to get a license. Since “Driver’s ed” training stops there, 98.5 % of the driving population has less than 10 minutes of formal training in how to handle Emergency Driving Conditions, … which is when everything goes horribly wrong in front of you … and THAT is where we’re faced with life or death. Driver’s ed covers the “pass or fail” stuff. We do the “live or die” stuff. How long is the program? This is an 8 hour program delivered in 2 parts: One weeknight which all students and their parents attend, and then their choice of any one of four, 5 - hour weekend sessions that following weekend. (Saturday or Sunday, morning or afternoon.) All held right at the school. What vehicle do they drive? Their own. This is why we carry the highest ranking available from the National Defensive Driving Institute. The main objective of this program is to learn the limits of what their vehicle can, and cannot do in Emergency Driving Conditions, so they should drive the vehicle they plan on driving most. A parent - participation program? Indeed. We always invite both parents, but only require that one attend the classroom and one attend the driving session. Any parent(s) who attend(s) the entire program is also entitled to a Defensive Driving Certificate, which can help with their insurance rates as well. Who can attend? Who is the target audience? Anyone with a permit or license may attend. We don’t just focus on new drivers … we target the 98.5% of the driving population who has less than 10 minutes of formal training in how to handle Emergency Driving Conditions. We have trained 70 year old ladies, court - appointed repeat offending speeders, and many new drivers. In fact, parents who put their 15 year old students through this program typically wind up insisting the older siblings attend as well. What are the goals of the Accident Avoidance Workshops ? ~ Reduce the likelihood of them being in an accident by more than 75%. ~ Make parents MUCH more comfortable with their students abilities behind the wheel. ~ Give the “hot - rod lead - foots” a new respect for their vehicle and knocks them down a few pegs. ~ Give the “timid” or “uncertain” drivers a new confidence in their abilities behind the wheel. ~ Completely eliminate the inherent communication barrier between parents and their students on the subject of driving. ~ Expose students to Emergency Driving Conditions they don’t expect will ever happen. ~ Show them exactly how quickly Emergency Driving Conditions can occur. ~ Train them how to respond when faced with Emergency Driving Conditions. What are the students’ financial benefits of the Accident Avoidance Workshops ? ~ Comparable programs available to the general public are in the $ 479 - $625 range. ~ Helps the entire family maximize on their insurance discount - ability. ~ The majority of the tuition can be written off of state taxes. ~ If you lose a child, your family is never complete again. You can’t put a price on that. www. How can we scout the program? Schools: If you, or one of your PTA Officers would like to scout the classroom portion of the program and/or come to watch one of the driving sessions, we welcome the opportunity. “This is the coolest thing that’s ever happened to our school! “ - Sabrina Aslam ; PTA; Fayette County What facilities does the facility provide? 1 - Theater, auditorium or media center that will hold 120 people. 2 - Parking lot: 150’ x 300’, unobstructed. (At schools, the size of a football field. Bus lanes or where the marching band practices work best.) If a school does not have a parking lot large enough to host the program, they can partner with a neighboring school who does. (Classroom at one school , driving at the other, shared proceeds .) 21 ways to promote the Workshops without spending a dime (in order of effectiveness): 1 - Whenever there’s a large gathering of parents, (Freshman night, PTA meeting, AP night, etc.), give us 2 - 3 minutes to speak, and we will set up a table and take registrations or answer questions. This will leave them standing in line wanting information! 2 - Link the provided flyer directly to the School’s web page .* 3 - Four dedicated e - mail blasts to the parents, speaking SOLELY about the Workshops*. 4 - No later than f our weeks prior to the event, have someone hand out AAW postcards to the parents who come to pick up their kids .* 5 - Weekly e - mail blasts from the school to those on the school’s mailing list.* 6 - Weekly e - mail blasts from the PTA to those on the PTA mailing list.* 7 - Extend the invitation through your personal network (relatives, colleagues, neighbors, etc.) 8 - In your weekly e - mails, include a link to one of the exciting videos on our website! 9 - Tell your school’s sub - groups (Marching band, Football team, LaCrosse team, Math Club, etc.) about how they can earn $10 per referral simply by going to the following website, and registering: www.AccidentAvoidanceWorkshops.org/fund.html 10 - Have any employers you have connections with extend the invitation through their companies. 11 - Extend the invitation to other schools through their PTA. 12 - We will place signs at your school. 13 - Have the students involved with your school newspaper write an article. 14 - Put posters up in the high - parent - contact areas of the school. (Your media kit includes 3!) 15 - Leave our promotional postcards in the attendance office for parents. (There are several in your media kit , and we’re happy to send more as you need!) 16 - Invite the media to attend/cover your event. (We will provide contact information for you.) 17 - Automated voice - mail message, which we will happily record for you. 18 - Put the event information on the school’s marquee . 19 - Put Accident Avoidance Workshops information on the maps, forms or other paperwork you handout to parents when they come to attend the open houses. 20 - Have your school’s technology class or department create their own video interview to air during the morning announcements. 21 - Have a business/marketing teacher take on the promotion of the Workshops as a class project. * For hosting schools, these are only required during the 10 weeks prior to the weekend to retain rebate eligibility. Copy Michael@AccidentAvoidanceWorkshops.org to have your mailings tracked for your rebates. www. Accident Avoidance Workshops .org Info@ Accident Avoidance Workshops .org 770 - 262 - 7009 Is the Accident Avoidance Worskhops insured? Of course. More than any school or county has ever required. In business since 1994, and never had a claim … period. Additionally, parents are required to acquire proof of insurance for their student, and sign a waiver - release prior to attending which releases the hosting venue of any liability whatsoever. How much does it cost? Nothing for the school … period. Public venue pricing will be $ 359 per parent/student team, but as Partner in Education with Georgia schools , the cost when hosted at schools will be reduced to: $ 249 for venues within 50 miles of Atlanta, $259 for venues 51 - 100 miles from Atlanta, $ 269 for venues 101 - 150 miles from Atlanta, $279 for venues 151 - 250 miles from Atlanta All sponsors are invited to subsidize the tuition to reduce the price even further if they like. For an additional $ 5 0, both parents may attend the driving session. If both parents attend the entire program, this can significantly reduce the family’s insurance rates. What’s the payback ? The first 10 students enrolled (minimum) earn the PTA $10 each: $100 The second 10 students enrolled earn the PTA $20 each: $ 200 The third 10 students enrolled earn the PTA $30 each: $ 300 The final 10 students enrolled earn the PTA $40 each: $400 Total possible: $1000.00* (The 14 - student minimum needed to be secured to host the event is waived for new venues.) To be eligible for the rebate, simply promote the program. Each week you copy Michael@AccidentAvoidanceWorkshops.org on the required parent or school distribution, you are eligible for an additional 10% of the stipend. You need only distribute the e - mails until the Workshops are full, or for 10 weeks, whichever comes first. If at the end of the 10 weeks, you still haven’t filled your weekend, you will still be eligible for the entire 100% of your stipend. * Minus any County, Local, or School fees. The hosting school’s rebates are paid on any student who attends, regardless of what school they attend. Can we earn money even if we can’t host the program? Yes. Any organization can earn rebates, and any school who is willing to use their resources to promote teen - driving safety can as well. During registration, we track the source of where the customer heard about the Workshops. Those who qualify earns their entity a $10 stipend. (Hosting venues may opt out of this part of the program entirely if they like.) Any additional incentives? Yes. ~ This program will make your school, the PTA and the Principal’s administration the hero in the community! ~ A potential complimentary tuition will be offered to the PTA President for each hosted weekend. They may designate it to any PTA Officer they wish. (Any position listed on their web page). That Officer may use the scholarship to attend the Workshops with any student they wish, whether part of their family or not. Tuition is billed normally, and at the conclusion of the event, they will be rebated per the following schedule: $7 for each paid tuition if they attend the entire program with the student, (Max full price) $3 for each paid tuition if they choose not to attend the entire program with the student. www.
