Drafting Lines

lightweight solid lines used to indicate an object

Extension lines – lightweight lines used in conjunction with dimension lines to extend the outline of an object to the dimension line

Dimension lines – lightweight solid lines used to indicate the surface or edge of an object being measured.Slide5

edium weight solid curved or angled lines to indicate that part of a drawing or object has been omitted.

Medium weight solid line that defines the shape or outline of an object.

Medium weight line made up of alternate long and short dashes. It defines the center of the theatre or an object.Slide6

Medium weight line that defines the shape of an object that is hidden in current view (ex. shelves in a cabinet)

Lightweight dashed lines that indicate an alternate position for a piece of scenery, such as it’s storage position

Found on a plan view, this indicates the height of an object from the floorSlide7

Drafting assignment!

Draw the following symbols with the assigned dimensions using ½” scale. Label them with leader lines.

A Platform – 4’x8’x10”

A Ramp – 3’x6’ going from 0’0” to 3’6”

A Door – 3’6” wide and opens in the room (you are in the room)

A curtain that is 7’0” long and hung with fullness

A 5’0” wide arch

A sash window that is 2’3” wide

A stair case that has 6 steps and with a 6” rise and a 12” tread

A 12’ long cyclorama with a pipe in the bottom.

A casement window that is 6’0” and opens in the middle with a 2’0” wall on either sideSlide8

Duplicate this box and label the horizontal lines. The box should be 3” by 6” with 1” in between each new horizontal line. Label the lines to the right using a leader line.
