John 20:1
Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. Slide3
So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple . . . and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”
John 20:2Slide4
So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb . . . (and both saw it empty)
John 20:3-7Slide5
The
disciple saw
and believed;
yet
they did not understand the Scripture, that
Jesus
must rise from the dead. Then the disciples
went back to their homes.
John 20:8-10Slide6
But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain . . .
John 20:11-12Slide7
They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him
.”
John 20:13Slide8
Having
said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but
she did not know that it was Jesus
. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you seeking?”
John 20:13-14Slide9
Supposing
him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”
John 20:15Slide10
Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to
him, “Teacher!”
Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them,
John 20:16-17Slide11
‘
I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
“I have seen the
Lord”
- and
that he had said these things to her.
John 20:17-18Slide12
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were
for fear
of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “
Peace be with you
.”
John 20:19Slide13
The real question is this
Is Jesus’ resurrection the most important event in YOUR life?
HandoutSlide14
Only one . . .
COULDN’T GO ON
WITHOUT FINDING JESUS
HandoutSlide15
Mary Magdalene was:
A “RELENTLESS”
FOLLOWER OF JESUS
One who would not give up regardless of the obstacles
HandoutSlide16
God used Mary to restore:
MANKIND’S FALL INTO SIN
THAT BEGAN IN THE
GARDEN OF EDEN
HandoutSlide17
The Resurrection & The Garden
John 19:17 – The Garden Gate
John 19:41 – A Garden At Golgotha
John 20:15 – The “Gardener”
HandoutSlide18
“When
the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she
took
some and
ate . . .”
Genesis 3:6Slide19
The real sin of the Garden of Eden:
someone “relentlessly” pursued
what seemed good over
God who is good
,
the true source and center of life
HandoutSlide20
In The Second Garden
God, Himself, tastes of the tree of the knowledge of good & evil (at the Cross) and brings life
RedemptionSlide21
In The Second Garden
Man (& Woman) is looking for God but can’t find Him because of their sin
RedemptionSlide22
In The Second Garden
A woman is the first to seek God who is good over things of this world that seem good.
RedemptionSlide23
In The Second Garden
The “Great Gardener” reveals in Himself that there is life
RedemptionSlide24
In The Second Garden
The focus begins on death and a tomb but leads to God & life
RedemptionSlide25
The Resurrection Is About:
ANY PERSON rising above the things of this world to “relentlessly”
pursue God
HandoutSlide26
God always calls the name
of the person . . .
WHO TRULY SEEKS HIM
HandoutSlide27
God is still asking people today:
WHOM ARE YOU SEEKING?
John 20:15Slide28
“
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from
defeat”
Jeremiah 29:13-14Slide29
When we see & seek The One who conquered death with His life . . .
HE TAKES WHAT IS DEAD IN US
AND MAKES IT ALIVE IN HIM!
HandoutSlide30
“I WANT TO BE A ‘RELENTLESS’
FOLLOWER OF JESUS.
NOTHING IS MORE IMPORTANT.”
