Purposehis memorandum prescribeeligibility and procedures for nominations for the JALSAwardand the SOCCAward. 2. PolicyJALSwill annually distinguished service or exceptional contributionto the provision of legal services in support of the U.S. Army and its mission.This recognition will include two categories, the JALS Award for Excellence (hereinafter “JALS Award”), focusing on relatively recent contributions, and the SOCC Award, highlighting distinguished civilian service of more than a decade 3 to recognize excellence inthe practice of law and delivery of legal servicesThe JALS Award is the official award of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps(JAGC)designed to recognize those who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, legal and community service, and who embody Eligibility and Criteria ��DAJA-SI SUBJECT: Fiscal Year(FY21)U.S. Army Judge Advocate Legal Services (JALS) Award for Excellence and Sustained Outstanding Civilian Career (SOCC) Award ��2 &#x/MCI; 0 ;&#x/MCI; 0 ;community service. As a sustained service award, information supporting nominations may encompass the entire period of civilian service as well as highlight the impact of significant contributions or achievements. Nominations, Suspense,and SelectionAny service member or epartment Army (DA) employee may nominate another candidate. Nominations must be in writing, not to exceed twopages, and be endorsed by the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) or equivalent senior attorney supervisor to which that nominee is assigned. Each recommendation must be accompanied by the nominee’s Records Brief (ORB/ERB/SRB/CRB). a. Nominations by CommandAlthough it is not mandatory, all commands are encouraged to review the records of eligible individuals and consider submitting those who most reflect the excellence expected of every member of the JAGCb. SuspenseNominee packets must be received bythe Strategic Initiatives Office, the custodian of the JALS Award Program, via email at usarmy.pentagon.hqda otjag.mbx.jagcorpsinfo@mail.mil no later than2359 (EST) onMay 2021Packets received after that suspense will not be considered. c. Packet equirements. Each nomination must be submitted as a memorandum consistent with Army Regulation 2550, Chapter 2, addressed to The Judge Advocate General. The only Enclosure authorized is the applicable Records Brief of the nominee, and each nomination is limited to two pages of narrativePackets must be submitted in combined file per nominee in .pdf formatAny nomination packet that does not comply with these requiremenmay be disqualified. A disqualified packet will be considered for the award Selection of NomineesThe Judge Advocate Generalwill appoint aboard evaluate allnominations and make recommendations for selectionMultiple awardsin each categorymaybe given based upon the quality of the candidates.Nomination or selection of an individual for one award do does not preclude nomination or selection for the other award.
