1. “About printers”Created by : Sapna MakwanaStudent ID : [20BCA37]

2. Printers :-A printer is an output device that prints paper documents. This includes text documents, images, or a combination of both. In accepts input command by user on a computer or on other devices to print the documents. Example: If you have to a submit a project report at your college, you need to creat a soft copy of your report and print it with the help of the printer.Printer can be classified into to types acccording to technology used in their manufacturing:Impact printer Non- Impect Printer

3.

4. According to how printing style, printers are divided in three types:-[1] Character printer * Prints one character at a time. * Example : Dot metrix printer, Inkjet printer[2] Line printer * Prints one line at a time. * Example : Drum printer, Chain printer[3] Page printer * Prints one page at a time. * Example : Laser printer

5. Dot-metrix printer

6. Dot-matrix printer :-Dot matrix printers are character printer, which print one character at a time. They form characters and all kind of images as a pattern of dots. It has a print head which can move horizontally left to right/ right to left Across the paper.

7.

8. Advantages of dot-metrix printer:Dot metrix printers are used to produce copies by using carbon paper. They are cheap in cost.

9. Disatvantages of dot-metrix printer :Dot matrix printers are impact printer ao they print by hammering the pins on the inkedribbon to leave ink impression on paper. They are noisy in nature because it strikes the hammer on paper. They are slow with speed usually ranging between 30 to 600 chracters per second.

10. Inkjet printer

11. An inkjet printer uses dot matrix approach to print text and graphics. Most inkjet printers use multiple jets vertically aligned on a cartridge, which moves hoeizentally across a page. The ink cartridges contain a column of tiny heaters. When a heater is activated a drop of a ink is exploded into the paper. The print head contains an ink cartridge which is made up of a number of ink-filled firing chambers, each attached toa nozzel thinner than a human hair. When an electric current is passed through a resistor, the resistor heats a thin layer of ink at the bottom of the chamber. The bottom ink layer of the chamber is heated up 900 degree fahrenheit for a fraction of a second. This cause the ink ti boll and from a vapour bubble, The vapour bubble expands and pushes ink through the nozzel to from a droplet at thetip of the nozz.

12.

13. Advantages of inkjet printer :Inkjet printers are not impact printer, because they print by spraying ink on paper. So they are quite in nature.Inkjet printer allow to print many special charecters, different size of print and ability to print graphics such as chart and graph Inkject printers produce higher quality output than dot metrix printers.

14. Disadvantages of inkjet printer :Inkjet printers are slower than dot metrix printers with speed ranging from 40 to 300 character per second.Inkjet printers are more expansive.Inkject printers can not be used to produce multiple copies of a paper in single printing.

15. Laser printer

16. Laser printer is page printer, which print one page at a time.Structure: The main component of a laser printer are. * laser beam source * A multi sided mirror * Photconductive drum * Toner

17.

18. Working :Laser beam is focused on electro statically charged drum which spinning by multisided mirror. The mirror focuses laser beam on the surface of the drum in a manner to creat patter of chracter to be print on page.Drum is photoconductive.Different electric charge is created on those part of drum surface which expose to laser beam.Toner which is opposed to charged ink particles, stick to the drum In the place where laser beam jas charged the drum surface.Toner is finally fused on paper with heat and pressure to generate the printed output. After print one page drum is rotated and cleaned with rubber blade to remove toner sticking to its surface.

19. Advantages of laser printer :This printer gives high resolution and excellent art quality. They are quite in operation. They have high speed printer can print 500 to 1000 page per minutes.

20. Disatvantages of laser printer :They cannot be used To produce multiple vopies of document in single printing. They are move expensive than other.

21. Differences between Dot-matrix & inkjet & laser printer:

22. Drum printer : The term “drum printer” refers to different types of printer designs throughout the modern digital age that have featured drum installations or setups. Two very different types of drum printers represent landmarks in the process of building ever-more-sophisticated and advanced printers as digital technologies have evolved.

23. Chain printer :An early line printer that used type slugs linked together in a chain as its printing mechanism. The chain spins horizontally around a set of hammers. When the desired character is in front of the selected print column, the corresponding hammer hits the paper into the ribbon and onto the character in the chain.
