Slide3Paranoid schizophrenia
Paranoid schizophrenia is characterized by mostly positive symptoms of schizophrenia, including delusions and hallucinations.
Such
crippling symptoms increase the gap between what is true and what is not, making it impossible for a person to live a normal life.
Slide4Paranoid (continues)...
The paranoia in paranoid schizophrenia stems from delusions—firmly held beliefs that persist despite evidence to the contrary — and hallucinations — seeing or hearing things that others do not. Both of these experiences can be persecutory or threatening in nature
.
A patient may hear a voice or voices in their head that they do not recognize as their own thoughts or internal voice. These voices can be demeaning or hostile, driving a person to do things they would not do otherwise.
Slide5Hebephrenic or Disorganized schizophreniaThe hebephrenic or disorganized subtype of schizophrenia is
characterized
by shallow and inappropriate emotional
responses, silly or bizarre behaviour, false beliefs (delusions), and false perceptions (hallucinations
).
Slide6Undifferentiated SchizophreniaUndifferentiated-type schizophrenia is a term used when a person has actions that fall with two or more other forms of schizophrenia, including symptoms such as delusions , hallucinations , disorganized speech or
behaviour,
catatonic behaviour
. These people experience severe
delusions,
hallucinations , disorganized speech, or disorganized or catatonic
behaviour;
their symptoms are not necessarily
positive,
disorganized, or disorganized.
Slide7Residual SchizophreniaWhen
a person has at least one episode of schizophrenia in the past but currently has no symptoms (delusions, hallucinations , disorganized speech or
behavior
) they are known to have residual schizophrenia.
The person may be in full remission or may regain symptoms at some stage
.
Slide8Catatonic TypeCatatonic is
characterized by a considerable decrease or increase in movement, with at least two of the following symptoms present
.
It can include periods where the individual moves very little and does not respond to instructions.
Slide9Catatonic Type (continues)...In an extreme form of catatonic schizophrenia an individual
can demonstrate motor activity that is considered “excessive” and “peculiar,” such as
echolalia
(mimicking sounds) or Echopraxia (mimicking movements). This is called catatonic excitement.
