4. Beam tube support in magnet boreStrategy to support the beam tube (to protect the SC coil against the beam tube) with annular gap of 1.5 mm for the D1 magnet is a use of 2 different types of support;Metallic beam tube support with polyimide coating fixed at the collar assemblyGFRP bumpers on the coil wedge 3WP3 meeting, Jan. 9, 2019t1.7t1.7

6. a) Metallic beam tube supportWP3 meeting, Jan. 9, 2019The metallic beam tube support will be used to prevent the sag of the tube due to the gravity and some fraction of weight of the beam tube could be supported. So, the supports are only located at the bottom in the cross section. As shown in the picture in the next slide, the support is assembled at the end of collar sub-stack in the bottom coil. In the prototype, the spacing between the metallic supports will be around 300 mm.Brass (JIS H3100 C2801) is chosen for the base material of the metallic beam tube due to a low permeability, good workability, better matching for surfacing insulation with polyimide.5

8. b) GFRP bumpersThe GFRP bumper will be used to prevent direct contact of the beam tube onto the SC coil block and the minimum gap of 1.5 mm between the coil and the beam tube must be kept as a specification. This is also expected to act as a guide when the beam tube is inserted in the bore.As shown in P1, the bumper will be fixed on one of the coil wedges which is located at roughly 45 degree wrt the magnetic pole.In the coil cross section, the bumper is distributed in each quadrant and 4 bumpers in the cross section will act as the guide. The bumper is made of the radiation resistance GFRP (BT-S2) and will be fixed to the wedges after coil curing by PEEK bolts and adhesive.WP3 meeting, Jan. 9, 20197
