Mild swelling and ecchymosis.
Local tenderness.

Similar to grade 1 but:
Moderate S/S
Impaired muscle function.Slide5

Grade 3
S/S are severe.
Loss of muscle function.
Palpable defect.
Highest incidence muscles:
Hamstrings
Gastrocnemius
Quadriceps
Hip flexors

Some stretching and separation of fibers.
Minimal instability.
Mild pain, swelling and joint stiffness.Slide7

Grade 2
Some tearing and separation of fibers.
Moderate instability.
Moderate pain, swelling, and joint stiffness.Slide8

Grade 3
Total tearing of ligament.
Severe instability.
Can result in subluxation.
Severe pain then followed by no to little pain from disruption of nerve fibers.
Severe swelling and joint stiffness some hours later.
Rule out other ligament damage.
