Background
When I first started my research on Little Red Riding Hood I went in with a open and innocent mind.
As I dug deeper into research I learned that not only is this myth racy in its nature but it has a tenacity that is even prevalent in todays society.

My Question
How has Little Red Riding Hood’s original meaning changed to conform to new occurrences within modern society?
As I began researching, I learned that the fabled Little Red Riding Hood has been slowly conforming, changing and dulling down since its origin.
As society changes and morphs its own path through the
years—our
fabled tales change too.
Morals
and the story’s original background convert almost entirely as we come to different obstacles within a daily basis. Little Red Riding Hood has had a definite impact in young children
and women over
the years, but its deeper, darker meaning and roots still ring
as clear
through to
today as they did in 1697.Slide4
Origins
Before Charles Perrault had originally published Little Red Riding Hood in 1697, it came from European oral traditions.
Brothers Grimm Published tale in 1905
Based on the Frenchman Charles Perrault story
The brothers Grimm is known to have quite the violent endings and not holding back, when they received Little Red Riding Hood, they had begun to dial it back because of its malapropos nature.
They wanted it to be told to children—serving as a warning and showing the male dominant society compared to women and children at the time
Sometimes the part of the antagonist was told to match some of the occurrences within the time—most closely relating to the werewolf trials of Italy in the 14
th
centurySlide5
Original Tale 1697
The little girl was the prettiest in the village—later to be called a good woman.
Walking through the forest she met a wolf not knowing it was a dangerous interaction, relaying to him where she was going and why.
Little Red was asked to join her “grandmother” in bed. She proceeded by taking off her clothes and climbing in.
Little Red is eatenSlide6
Moral of original Tale
Women—being fair and beautiful but ignorant in the society can become very easy prey
Don’t talk to strangers
Wolf symbolizes a longing male in a male dominant society
Innocence is no savior Slide7
Morals of Brothers Grimm 1905
After the time of America and London being scared of their first serial killers– Jack the Ripper and Howard Henry Holmes—not even 20 years later after the fear, Brothers Grimm released Little Red Riding Hood
Women need to be more careful
Don’t associate with strange men
Rarely journey on your ownSlide8
Brothers Grimm
Brothers Grimm had many themes that they displayed in many of their works
Premarital Sex, graphic violence, child abuse, anti-Semitism, incest and wicked mothers
In little Red Riding Hood, they managed to elusively intertwine 3 of their main themes: premarital sex, child abuse and graphic violenceSlide9
Modern Interpretation 2000’s
